The guy wasn't capable of outright lying (except maybe sometimes when duty and justice required it, and Ray didn't see how this would qualify), so Ray figured he really didn't know he was groping Ray half the time he was, and the other half he must really think he was touching in a normal buddy kind of way (even though it wasn't normal, not even a little bit).
