I know that science has indicated the four-day work week is better. Optimal? I don't know. I feel like three days is really the longest stretch for which I feel good. I'm always thinking it's Friday on Wednesday and mentally sobbing on Thursday 'Why isn't it Saturday???'

But maybe Wednesdays off and working the other four would really be ideal. Not that any of this is remotely realistic in our capitalist hellscape. It just makes me feel better to think about it with a little theoretical distance.

Yes, maybe you would prefer having a break in the middle!

In the US unfortunately a four-day work week usually means 4 ten-hour days, which sounds awful.

But part-time work could be structured in all kinds of ways if the execs were flexible. Sometimes not the case of course.

I have a friend whose daughter works in a blood testing lab in a hospital and she works three 12-hour days in a row, night shift, and then has four days off!!! I don't know how she does it honestly. But that is considered full time for her.

I can tell you from experience that four 10 hour days is truly awful.

There are very few jobs - none I can think of, but I accept that there may be a few - that require the amount of work people actually have to be at their jobs. At least for all the jobs I've ever had in offices, four hours four days every week would be more than enough to get the work done, even in high pressure situations with stringent deadlines. The eight hour day is fucking nonsense and I resent it terribly.

Yeah, Wednesdays off would be great, and also shorter days.

This is why even working five days a week, I prefer to have my days off broken up and work three days, off one, work two days, off one. Five days in a row is too much working.

Sadly I now have to work weekdays and take weekends off if I want to have any hope of a semi-uninterrupted day off, but at least I am working from home a decent amount, so it doesn't feel as bad as if I were stuck in the store or office for five days straight.
