an addition to the family

last night i took the dog out at midnight. heard, from the back of the yard, shielded by the cars and a stack of salvaged bricks that are going to make garden pathways, the creaking of a swing swinging. no, it was not windy. however, it could've come from the next door neighbors' yard, nearby but screened from view by a thicket of bamboo and climbing vines.

we've acquired a second stray cat, which brings our overall total up to five. of course, the three which are really OURS live in the house and the other two we just feed whenever they ask. marmalade's new friend is a tiny and very slender black cat whom i named blackberry at once (yes, indeed, i DID mary sue my cat!). then i realized i'm calling him 'kitty' already and marmalade 'baby.' so much for clever names. for the record, i also call the dog 'baby' and 'puppy' and two of the housecats 'kitten' or 'kitty' most of the time.

that's more like what i would LIKE to happen to marmalade, actually. what better than to be adopted by viggo, seriously? he officially belongs to the neighbors.
