so i went to japanese class with the second years today (i'm a first year, right? right). and was partnered with an incredibly nervous junior with acne and chin-length hair who kept shoving said hair behind his ears and saying "umm" in what was actually a rather endearing manner.

also, if plain/casual japanese were a man, it would be dashing and aggressive and wickedly clever, and i would SO fuck it. it would pin you to the wall and whisper dirty things in your ears. what's not to love about a language where "un" means no and "uun" means yes, and where "no" can be a possessive or a question particle? where you say "yes" just to be polite when you mean "no way in hell"? you might think i'm sarcastic, but i'm not. i'm liquid with lust for this language. hit me, baby. anata to watashi? mmm.

in other news, my shrink's a fucking moron (the male, iatrist one, folks--alas, we know him well). having nightmares means you're vaguely disturbed, maybe. that the CONTENT of these nightmares (ie cutting pie with a plastic spoon? hiding in the kitchen of japanese professor's house?) means anything in partiuclar along the lines of an urgent telegram from the subconscious is bullshit.

You're a linguistics student, yes? I'm looking for someone who feels like expounding on the topic. The leap from film school to linguistics is making me a bit nervous. Mostly in a good way, but I'm curious still.

i am... sort of, but i'm a freshman. i have the knowledge of about 2 introductory texts, a lot of class discussion in a seminar, and various years' study of greek, spanish, and japanese. and random info tidbits. i'll be happy to talk about it, but my school's a tiny college and doesn't offer the major, so i don't know about the World of Linguistics Programs. but you could try [livejournal.com profile] dantana or [livejournal.com profile] smilingjaded. they probobly know more of the conventional stuff. depending on what you want to know. say. discuss. whatever

Woohoo, sexy Japanese! I so agree with you, the casual side of the language is just plain sexy. Mind if I quote you on that? It made me laugh with joy. (And erm, lust?)
