Google's new email thingee. It's invitation-only at the moment.

apparently it IS google mail but i thought it was something different, because i heard googlemail still has ADS in it. even HOTMAIL doesn't have ads... so what's so fabulous?

Well, from what I've heard, it's the space issue. It's all very exciting that Google offers... however much space they're offering. What I don't get is why the people for whom this is such a concern don't use a program like Eudora that downloads and saves all their mail to their computer, so that it doesn't really matter how much space their domain offers.

I think it's because it's got that Google mystique about it that everybody's all waaaaa! about it. And because it's invitation only for the time being, so everybody wants one.

Everybody's all flippy about the ads because THEY SCAN YOUR EMAIL OMGWTFBBQ, like no other ISP does that. And Hotmail does too have ads (banners, little footer thing that says "Hi. This email came from Hotmail, in case you couldn't tell by the address," etc.). Mountains, molehills, 1000 MB of space. Whatever. It's a nice little account, and I'm glad I have one, but it's nothing people should be flipping about.

Actually, it depends. Sometimes I look at my gmail account and it's Ad free, and sometimes there's a few little google ads (like those things you see on greatestjournal userinfos). The cool thing about gmail is all the random crazy shit you can use it for, and it's actually pretty neat, except, well. I didn't really need another email account -- at least I have one for people to send like giant crap now. I guess. *shrugs*
