Senator John Edwards, campaigning on Thursday in Cape Girardeau, said he and running mate John Kerry have "no objection" to this week's vote in Missouri to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage. "We're both opposed to gay marriage and believe that states should be allowed to decide this question," Edwards said in an interview Thursday. Kerry is already on record supporting a similar amendment to the constitution of his home state, Massachusetts. Both members of the Democratic ticket support giving limited rights to same-sex couples.

Oh, well isn't that just fucking *lovely*. Bastards. The Constitution embodies the *ideals* of this nation - they're preceptions we're supposed to be striving to fulfill. It's not supposed to be *easy*, but if you're going to pledge to uphold the Constitution, you should be bloody well prepared to suck it up and deal with your own personal objections separately. I mean, I hate the fact that free speech lets people like the neo-nazis and Dr. Laura say what they say, but I wouldn't try and get them to stop - it's the sacrafice I make in upholding the ideals enshrined in the Constitution. When did politics become about tailoring your views to the polls anyway? Ethics and values just shouldn't be that mutable, and people shouldn't be so cavalier about lying about them.

Yeesh. More proof that the world is a depressing place.

Damn. I meant *precepts*. That's what I get for not spellchecking before I post. Anyone know how to edit a reply after you've already posted it?

Grr. Yeah. This has been both their positions since the primaries. Both were also absent from the recent amendment vote (campaigning, perhaps, but it still bothers me).

Just once I'd like to be able to vote for a candidate without having my stomach churn or because the other guy is a walking sign of the apocalypse.

It's not a good sign that the more attention I pay to Kerry and Edwards the less I want to vote for them.

Hehe. At least you get to put your hands on your hips and say "Fuck you all! I'm leaving the country."

i didn't see it and i don't know what crack van is. but i knew, because i got a piece of effusive fb. it always makes me uncomfortable when it's a piece i don't really like anymore. or, i don't know, think is very good. i mean, when people are SO EFFUSIVE. it makes me feel sort of... ungrateful.
