tv and music

a while ago, having finished about three hours of bad television*, wax settled down to reading recaps and listening to bad music.  i suspected the quality was no coincidence when enrique iglesias followed "macarthur park." 

"do you have a special playlist of bad songs?" i said incredulously.
"these are all my favorites," she explained.

after that, we may or may not have had a little tussle about "macarthur park."  whatever happened, the result was some downloading, and her sharing the mental image of dumbledore dancing to the breakdown in the middle of the richard harris original. 

*in my view that encompasses almost all of it.  i hate television.  it grates on my nerves, having it in the background.  at home i was the guerrilla volume-lessener and tv-turn-off-er.  i convinced my mom to buy a 27" flatscreen just so the old one could go in my little sister's room and we'd be able to force her to watch her shit where we couldn't hear it.

Ahahahahaha.

I have had at least 3 conversations with people about MacArthur Park in which they said they had never heard of it. I then attempted first to tell them about the song, and could not get through it because I was laughing so hard, and then, when that didn't work, attempted to shriek the chorus at the top of my lungs.

Which didn't work either, but always seemed a much more effective way of explaining.

It's hard to believe it's a real song, yeah? But somehow it is, and somehow it's been covered like fifty times by different people over almost thirty years... The world is a wacky place, and I like it that way.
