i want:

+a story in which duncan and methos have only gradually been able to become comfortable together again, where they've gradually grown more physically affectionate than we see in the series, but set before they actually start having sex. set in the fluffy sunny happy time of pleasant anticipation. only mild angst would be remotely acceptable. ...maybe i've just had enough angst (something that's way easy to do in this fandom.)

+a story in which methos tells mac scathingly, and at length, how stupid he is. canon engendered this wish. the guy is just begging for a smackdown.

+a story without the phrase "his lover" in it one single time. (i know, dream on, right?)*

+a story in which methos is a sucky sword-fighter (fits canon evidence, even though it makes no sense whatsoever).

+a story in which methos doesn't pine or in any other fashion act like a wet noodle (or a teacup poodle, for that matter). i have no objection to his being unrequitedly in love or whatever. i mean, it's easiest to interpret canon that way, so have a party. but a hard methos! a sarcastic, witty, intelligent, opaque, often angry, cautious and untrusting methos--remember him? from on the screen?

+a story that's angsty, with dialogue that's in-character, WITHOUT melodrama. hahahahaha.

on another note: a passion that burned with the intensity of an entire city aflame. HAHAHAHAH.

*okay, i've probably even read one, but when you've read ten in a row that sprinkle it about like powdered sugar on lemon bars, they gradually erase the memory of the appositive-free fic until all that remains is blind, hating, style-policing editor's RAGE.

Powdered sugar on lemon bars!

I especially want the one where Methos is a sucky swordfighter, even if it makes no sense. His secret shame! He used to be good, but stopped practising! Bad Methos.

But you just made it make sense! He used to be good, but stopped practising!

Although, after 5000 years of experience, a decade or so without practising (as in, I doubt Adam Pierson is much into swordfighting) shouldn't make you that rusty. See canon evidence. He's even sucky in that one fight where he claims that just because he doesn't want to fight doesn't mean that he can't. Yeah, well... ::cough::

In conclusion, it doesn't make sense.

no, but what can you do? he's a much better actor than the, uh, run of the mill show. i guess they felt they couldn't quibble with his swordfighting when they didn't bother to make adrian paul ever act at all.

I'm starting to kind of like Adrian; I mean, he seems like an okay enough guy apart from the fact that he really really can't act. Not that this has anything to do with anything. I'm just mentioning.

Okay, I'm still laughing at that comment. A lot. And the icon.

i keep thinking, "but methos, what if he goes into a fight and lets himself get killed" (or whatever she said) and "then... we get our own show" and his ADORABLE little laughing.

yeah, i'm sure adrian is a very nice guy, although i could selfishly wish he had played up the slash vibes more. i'm not sure he noticed what was going on, anyway. it's mostly [written] from methos's side.

no, i have nothing about him personally. in fanvids he's a lot more attractive cause they take out all the bad angles. (i was watching the ones by killa and melina yesterday...)

Mmmmm, now you made me want to watch fanvids again. And I was supposed to obsessively screencap Finale tonight.

By the way, the most adorable thing from the audio commentary to Finale. They keep going on about Methos's red jeans. The first time they show up Elizabeth asks in an almost incredulous voice "Does Peter have on red pants?", and then the next time Methos comes along, in black jeans this time, someone kind of sing-songs "Here comes Methos!", and Peter chimes in with "Me changes pants!"

OMG. So. Dead. Of the cute. Although I guess it's one of those you-had-to-be-there moments. But, but, akfgbmlmblerfkb.

Damn you, Peter Wingfield. Damn you to hell.

EXACTLY. i mean, it wouldn't be ooc at all because he TOTALLY IS. he's always clearly thinking, "i hope this goes where i think it's going to!" when he takes a swing.

I had to find this entry only to quote this: Peter observes that he thinks that someone who had survived that long probably wouldn't be the greatest fighter. He'd be competent, but the way to survive is to blend in, disappear, to not fight.
From here, apparently commentary to episode Methos. Again it's also brought up that PW thought the series was on crack and had no idea what he was doing during the filming of that first Methos ep.

Not that I think canon Methos is even competent with his sword. He's just pathetic.

What we see in this episode also belies the fannish notion I've frequently encountered that "Methos is really one of the best swordsmen in the world, and just 'pretends' otherwise around MacLeod." There is no one to pretend for as he flails away at Kalas. He looks neither graceful nor powerful, and almost loses his head.

But that's pretty funny. From the same place.

he's right. the series was on a particularly nonsensical kind of crack.

but i'm not sure i buy that he should be merely competent. or, well, maybe his standard of competent is higher. he's going to have to have a fair amount of practice even if he's not an enthusiast or has zero natural talent (which certainly does seem to be the case).
