wax_jism doesn't have a bed, and because she's been sniffing paint, instead of buying one she wants to make one.  "my brother has some blueprints," she says.

because no way am i going to make my own bed in the hammers-and-nails sense.  the sheets sense, yes.  i can even make hospital corners!  thank you, martha stewart.  even though finnish people are too progressive for sheets.

Seriously, a bed is one of the easiest things to make. It's a box, or even just like a giant plank of wood with some other bits of wood nailed underneath, and a mattress chucked on top. As long as she's not attempting a headboard and railings and things like that, it's safe. However the cost of the wood is probably going to be the same as the cost of an IKEA bed (a fairly crappy one) unless she can get decent cheap wood.

i can see a very simple bed, and i acknowledge that it WOULD be simple, in theory, but neither of us has adequate carpentry experience. i'm okay with a drill and screwdrivers, but a saw? and wax says she sucks with a saw. so we get all sweaty and... how long does it take two lameass wimps like us? in the meanwhile, we sleep on the floor. and get splinters! i wish they had garage sales in finland... .
