dog has fleas, i think. this is v/ odd to discover now, as he's been itchy for weeks, and so i looked for them fruitlessly. also because my parents were supposed to be giving flea medicine to the animals all year while i was gone. it's hard to believe anyone living in alabama could forget to do this. all of our animals are well-known to be allergic to them. i'm really really irritated, and i don't have time to vaccuum everything twice and throw the bag away and wash all my new bedding. goddammit.

a dinner party tonight. i'm supposed to unpack and sort fossils all morning. i left my cd player in massachussetts.

ow. i want to go back to sleep... in a bed without any fleas. i know it's unreasonable.

the dog bled on my bed last night, my nice new pale green bed. also, my dog is bleeding. bathtime. i'm going to do it outside, as outside is well-ventilated and i won't have to wear a swimsuit, though i'm confident i'll get soaking wet. hm.

i sorted fossils all morning, all of which are donated by a retired guy who lives somewhere in the state. he sends a new box full of fossils, hand-labeled by him, every week or so, has for years. they've got a whole room full of his boxes and he almost single-handedly supplies them to all the area teachers. i'm the only reason they've ever been unpacked--i did it two summers ago and then now. found popcorn kernels and other strangenesses inside the boxes. last time, a wedding photo. this time, some hairs and other gross things. but seriously, i wonder about this old guy. i'd like to get to know him. he sends the cutest instructions (classroom activities), little drawings, tentative identifications for the fossils. he's never spoken to one of the geologists who handle all his handiwork.

in the lull before the dinner guests, cim takes time out of her busy kitty-litter-avoidance schedule to bring you this special bulletin.

1. fresh cilantro is the best smell in the world.
2. dead birds are really, really gross. they are the kind of thing that you should use to never, ever think about unless you want to punish yourself, and certainly never see, and not at all the kind of thing you should, say, rub on your ears and face. however, dogs do not seem to understand this.
3. spanish accents are drop-dead sexy. also adorable.

don't worry; i'll control myself. and i put water on the dog's head in a fruitless combination of punishment and cleaning (he looked at me bemusedly, and shook his head to send little droplets flying all over the place). and more than the half cup called for of cilantro has gone in my special favorite salsa. hm, maybe i'll post a recipe later. it's pico de gallo norteño from zarela martinez's mexican cookbook food from my heart. tralala. my hands smell like cilantro and garlic and scallions and lime, mmmmh.

alright, so, i am very sleepy. no, that's not what i meant to say. um.

it's late and i came online hoping to catch hollsk, but she's gone. probably has to work tomorrow--as do i, taking dog to vet, unpacking fossils, making costume, vaccuuming. hey, it's work.

anyway, i couldn't find holls, but i was accosted by the fantabulous smilingjaded. it's rightthisway.net's birthday! yes, that's right, folks. the domain which hosts all my stuff for absolutely free has been around exactly a year today and has a spiffy new entrance page, and as always, the collected nslash of silviakundera, allecto, schuyler and smilingjaded, lucyhale and queenofhell. every time i see another popup ad at one of those godforsaken tripod and angelfire pages, i thank, um, well, i don't have a personal diety, but you get it: i thank things for smilingjaded and schuyler.
