still nothing as of yesterday evening, holls.

our living room is nearly entirely painted a marigold/mustard color on the woodwork and chair rail and a very dark maroon/cherry color on the top. it's beautiful.

i'm going to be housesitting for the month of july for some good friends who have cable internet. staying there will be niiiice. a cute cat and some dogs, not a lot to do, large quiet clean house with bigscreen tv and every single episode of monty python's flying circus on dvd. whoo!

[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism and i possess mutually harmful personalities, without doubt.

also i haven't eaten lunch. o.O apparently that's expected in this house (my parents', that is. weirdos).

i had blueberry pancakes with boysenberry syrup for breakfast, but there were far too few of them. i also had plain pancakes with honey, but again, there weren't enough. a single blueberry pancake was fed to perry*, who trotted around with it in his mouth, whimpering, until i opened the door from the kitchen to the living part of the house and he followed me to the library, where he promptly lay down on the floor under my chair to eat it. with his body on the old beige carpeting that's being ripped up and his head--and the blueberry pancake--over the white and pastel wool area rug that my mom bought in toronto a long time ago.

dad comes into the library. "HEY! he's not allowed to eat that in here."
i look over my shoulder, faking surprise. "oh, perry! you're not allowed to eat that pancake in here!" i carried him into my room to finish it, then let him back in with me.

he's now sleeping blissfully a bit behind me feet.

tralala.

i gorged myself on chips and salsa (maybe a quarter of a bag? i think my stomach is shrinking) and helped my mom edge the bottom of the wood paneling in the new living room. when we moved in, the bottom half of the room was white and the top was barf pink. when i was eight or so, we painted it teal blue and bluish turquoise. now it's the aforementioned gold and magenta. at any rate, this is bead board, a real pain to paint over: one board an inch wide or so, then one little narrow ridge, which means grooves in between.

so now i'm sitting here in the computer chair, picking flakes and chips of the old paint, white and aqua (the middle trim) off of my legs with the point of a retractable pen since my fingernails won't work.

does anyone know offhand if any of the big computer companies is having one of those deals right now on desktops? it's my job to search, otherwise, in between uploading photos and wading through the morass of airline reservation websites.

i dislike the affectation that characters speak to writers.

now, i personally haven't experienced this, but among the hordes of people who say figuratively that their characters "insist" on doing such-and-so a thing that they hadn't planned, are a few kooks who, when pressed, insist that, yes, the characters really do TALK to them. "he knows what he wants, and i say, 'say "x," dammit!' and he just says 'nooooo.'"

this whole idea irritates the hell out of me. i can't figure out if they're really deluded enough to believe the characters are somehow real, or if they just absolutely REFUSE to utter the word "metaphor" for feel of stifling their creativity.

and also, why is this:

on expedia, it would cost about $700 to fly, in one "trip," to detroit and then a day later to massachusetts.

also on expedia, if you do that as two separate trips, it would cost as little as $436.

the hell?

they're EVIL, that's why. they're just EVIL.
