i woke up with something to say--something quite deep, i'm sure. about how one thing is difficult and another in contrast is quite simple. it wasn't bitching about my housemates but there may have been something to do with my house. um.

i only slept 8 hours! and i'm awake, miraculously awake!

newsflash: you can't choose who you love! perhaps your subconscious does aaaaaaaaaaall the choosing for you. and it's not always that smart. thank god it does a better job with plotting stories.

it's so very easy to keep my dorm room clean and so very difficult to make a mess of it and yet most of the time you can hardly walk through it.

i woke up with the inexplicable desire to perform country line dances in the middle of the floor. perhaps not entirely inexplicable as i left winamp on and was listening to 'i'm holdin' on to love to save my life.' still.

the fly keeps landing on my nose and upper lip. die, mousefucker.

there is a red and white umbrella on the floor of my room. in some cosmic sense this just seems to say it all. ::sigh::

i live in off-campus housing, a 'quiet house' in a residential neighborhood. in the two blocks between me and the planetarium, president's mansion and registrar's office there is mostly faculty housing, which i have been assured the adorable little house next door to us is.

a few days ago i saw a mother and three small children putting up ghosts on wooden stakes--round heads with sheets draped over, faces drawn on. they're a few feet apart, with their hems clipped together to make the bottoms of their skirts stand out a bit.

their faces look like:

wax wants pavarotti singing 'nessun dorma.' she doesn't like andrea bocelli. unfortunately the recording of the duet is much more popular than the recording of pavarotti alone. you've no idea how many limewire searches i've done for it; i have it queued about thirty times, once by sarah brightman (she's cool, right? RIGHT?) and about five times with the artist not specified. on top of that i spent all day making 'initial' icons by request--which admittedly was my own fault, but.

i'm so cool. i am way cooler than you.

i've acquired quite a taste for a well-made mistake.

new livejournal layout, voila, for the easier reading pleasure of the k'salamander.

i have my dad's brain. it's sort of peremptory. we think about a specific thing, you know. so he'll send me an email that's like, '1. eat, 2. drink, 3. at least try to do your homework and i hope you feel better. love dad.' that's easy to deal with. if i write a line i've written as much as he has. my mom writes letters. they refer to things that, like, i can't remember. it's intimidating to respond to, because if you start one you feel you've committed more time to it. and then there's the fact that her school firewall won't let her send to hotmail so i have to take them at my school account, which i check less often, as i fear my professors.

hum. so basically i've been neglecting her, or rather, i sent emails to her work this week, but it was fall break so she didn't get it--::bangs head on desk:: poor mommy. i need to call home tomorrow, if i remember when she's likely to be awake. and i want to upload another new icon, but i found myself in one of those states where you stare blankly at your userpics for five minutes without coming any closer to a decision. ::yawn:: something with red hair, n'est c'pas?
