told claire one more story and then bed, but then, you can't go to bed without a happy ending, can you? a sad one and a parody later i found this.

oh, oh... ::sigh::

::eyes slit::

lovely. just beautiful. shakespeare entirely forgiven.*

*Two lads that thought there was no more behind
But such a day tomorrow as today
And to be boy eternal
The Winter's Tale.

it purported to be from elwood (suspicious enough in itself), with the subject line To: Bree. the contents were about getting out of debt fast.

oh no! he's sold out!

good afternoon.

cutest birthday card ever, there, plus some 'channukah' money from parents. expect a birthday package, they said. but they sent my present back with me. i lugged it through all the airports myself. hunh.

anyway, i'm off to read about negrismo and nicolás guillén. wish me luck.

if i finish 5 pp before cvs closes, i'm going to go buy potato chips. -_-

just cause it's spanish shouldn't make it that much harder to bullshit--should it?

exCUSE me, but i think there's a difference between precedent and antecedent, people. note the same root language, same root word, and *different prefixes*? yes. thank you. it's a fine line, but it exists.

effin' morons.

there's a snowy forest visible out my two rear-facing windows. makes me think of robert frost. ::sigh::

i may leave the waxlet for another bowl of oriental-flavored ramen. oh, the salt. on, the onion. oh the slurpiness! beautiful! they partially took out my craving for salt and vinegar potato chips, but not entirely. of course, talking about it makes it worse, but it's too late now. now i'm feeling that sweet sunday-afternoon lassitude, my belly full, my skin flushed from slurping a whole packet of hot ramen at once. it's even made me mellow enough to deal with lit crit on nicolás guillén in spanish, though the foreign language academicese is a bit hard to skim. (mental note: drop spanish class next sem--you can't handle this.)

oh, hm. there were some pictures. later, i suppose.

eeeeep

started reading another page on guillén and didn't realize until a sentence in that it was french. 'huh,' i was thinking tolerantly, 'this is odd, might be portuguese.' then my brain ticked over. oh. d'oh, rather.

mmm i want more salt. bad cim! no potato chips. this research is hard work, yo.

everything's brown and white, the sky the same color as the snow, only the few dead leaves clinging to the tree branches are almost golden in comparison (though they're definitely dead and 'brown' now). the ground slopes into a deep depression and slithers back out of it; it's covered with dense brush, the trees interwoven with braided vines, all as brown and dead as the trees themselves.the light falling on the paper in front of the window looks red by comparison to the stark silver of the sky.

nationalism is not quite as fascinating as this movement, 'negrismo,' which mixes nationalism with an abiding interest in black people, mulattos, african culture--and *cuban* culture, which is very africanized and above all mulatto itself.

ugly bastard, though. ::chews idly on a fingernail::

i decided to have cute hair today.

two more pigtails )

and i showed it to [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism, because she was there. well, what did she say but some sort of mumble about how i looked about fourteen. she's apparently already going down in family history as a cradle-robber ^_^. i'm now about 12 hours from being 20, anyway. i can look old! see?

two more with tiara )

...and the cute little eyeball camera triumphs again. write it down in the history books!

i don't need to have an outline.

::hides from them::

Why the hell couldn't Ray find a nice bit of crumpet to entertain himself with instead?

bit of crumpet.

she said bit of crumpet.

SHE SAID BIT OF CRUMPET.

my god. brings new meaning to soap opera, and i read every last bloody *bit* of the goddamned thing. ::hisses at it:: and it was bad! it was shameless with its soap operaness and its characterization was horrible and... and... ::weeps::
