le ants

remember a couple of days ago, when i found a wee colony of ants and wiped them up with orange fantastik? well, that happened a few days later again. didn't think much of it, as each time they were all gone and this was two different places--well, today, they were in the first place, plus a long line across the bottom of the island cabinets, plus around and up all over the giant tupperware we keep dog food in, and in several other places as well. i used a bunch of orange fantastik again, and the mop, and then i found the ant-raid and used that, and went to the post office. came back and opened the window. that stuff reeks. am worried, though. will the raid keep them out? man, this morning... that was GROSS.

last night i watched, and enjoyed THIS much, much ado about nothing. today i'm kinda torn, though. i'm out of new movies, excepting aotc and st: nemesis. i don't feel like those, though. i want my original star trek tapes! ::whine:: or, like, my cartoon movie of the phantom tollbooth. that movie kicks some serious ass, man. ...maybe the princess bride or field of dreams... i got out singin' in the rain yesterday, and i haven't watched it since i was at wax's in january. or, oh, hm, the two-tape version of pride and prejudice.

i let the kittehs out into the hallway and the bedrooms--the part of the house they usually can't explore. caught empress easily enough, but orpheus seems to be hiding, the little cutie. he's probably under lillian's bed or in a dresser somewhere. heh. <3

edit: caught him! he came right up to me, intent on exploring the bigass barbie dollhouse of doom, and i caught him and he's purring like mad and kneading my arm.

edit: his little tail is twitching now. aww, but he's so adorable. i will not put him back in the living room yet. he's so happy exploring the hurricane-damage-zone that is lillian's bedroom.

edit again: cosimo and don, from singin' in the rain, want to remind me of remus and sirius--donald o'connor, though, doesn't have the right look for remus either. he's a little foxlike, and his hair is too curly, and of course obviously he's too young, but i was thinking of young!remus. (how old were they when they filmed it anyway?)

we all know that i scrubbed the skin off my nose the night before last in a spasm of stupidity. because of the funny-shaped scarry thing, i look like a torture victim. when i went to the post office to mail wax_jism's package this morning, i didn't want to look like a torture victim, so i wore a wee bandaid and looked like a gangsta instead:

I HATE APPLE.* I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE THEM. ::stabs with rusty spork:: first quicktime won't work and i can't download the rotk trailer. then the goddamned installer, as i'm trying to reinstall, takes over the computer (i like installers that still let you im, not close off the entire screen and vanish the start bar and still let you hear the noises just to torture you) and then FUCKING FREEZES IT SO I CAN'T RESPOND to wax_jism's ims, and then when i get the damned thing closed STILL has the computer befuddled so it SHUTS DOWN AIM SPONTANEOUSLY and now she has GONE TO BED, and i lost some of the things she said. don't think she'll remember them tomorrow so it's okay. they're probably inconsequential and she won't remember but now i am left here with no wax, no food, and NO TRAILER. and a frozen computer, and the KITCHEN SMELLING LIKE RAID, and the CAR MOSTLY BROKEN, so i can't even go to the store to get milk and i can't make the fucking rice-a-roni without milk and i can't eat the last bowl of raisin bran, or make hot cocoa, so i can just LIVE ON APPLESAUCE AND ICECREAM UNTIL SUNDAY, basically. watched my cbs/fox version of pride and prejudice which occupies two tapes, and which my mother would be quick to inform you actually belongs to her. no colin firth, in other words. i know the version with him is a deal shorter. anyway, lines resonate and whatnot, and you cannot capture austen on film, of course. seized by the urge to read it, i search the house over. well, i know mom has three copies, but i know why i can't find one: cause i took it with me to college and left it, along with my favorite shoes and a zillion other things, in carolyn's spare room. this is the copy that would be where it goes--not the old old one, and not the one mom most recently bought. that one is probably under a dresser somewhere where it fell when she stopped reading it halfway through and left it to gather dust, overturned on a piece of furniture somewhere.

in any event, since even i am not evil enough to print it out, nor desperate enough to read it online, i'm debating the relative merits of emma (not as good. feh) or middlemarch (not quite as funny, more moralizing. though i did like it). and i realized i have one of last summer's science fiction convention books in my closet not yet read as well.

also, i cooked. habit made me make the pasta with garlic and ricotta and olive oil... we'll see if i can stomach it, won't we? i added some water and white wine to the sauce, and cut back on the olives a bit. one can but hope. and i still have a headache.
