i'm informed there's a new priceline.com commercial with shatner and nimoy. auuuugh i wish someone would tape it for me. i can't stand to watch tv. maybe it's downloadable somewhere.

packets have been mailed to [livejournal.com profile] secret_angel and [livejournal.com profile] hollsk. and a card for you, [livejournal.com profile] kmazzy! i've had a busy day. i guess wax and i didn't forget to feed the cat and bunnies the day before yesterday after all, because they weren't starving nor out of water today. except for how smudge tried to leap right out of the cage and eat the plastic cup that the food was in.

i rented platoon, even though it's a war movie, try 17 which is being called all i want, and bend it like beckham and fight club (for mom and dad respectively--can you believe they've never seen the latter? daddy: 'i MIGHT like it.' me, testily: 'i know you will.') then daddy refused to pay me back for the movie rentals despite that he and mom share all their debts public and private, and their resources too! joint accounts, uniformly! and she has given me carte blanche to select movies for rental, and be promptly reimbursed. the cad.

i slept about sixteen hours--got up at ten and went back to bed until one, and that when i didn't go to bed all that late. then i went out to rent four movies today and buy mom a birthday present because, as [livejournal.com profile] guinevere33's [::wave::! <3!] little australian boy said, it's her buh-thday.

waxlet, baby, i still owe you $100. think you might like to pick out some books and movies to have me send you?

the maiden voyage of the tiresias--i balk a little--at holmes at first, then later on reflection at watson--but am not sure it can be said to be really ooc. anyway, a brilliant (in the british sense), wonderful story. mmmmmmmmmmh. oh! nc-17 or maybe r. watson is determined to get some rest and talks holmes into a cruise.

tchah. this holmes/watson video by diana williams uses burke instead of hardwicke, and closes by imagining that he was born to play watson.

i think NOT.

nonetheless, you should all download it because (a) it has lots of good moments and (b) the choice of music is amusingly incongruous (although it did please [livejournal.com profile] squirrelmir). and (c) how likely are you to find another h/w video?

30 seconds, low or high res, win media or quicktime, at priceline ([livejournal.com profile] annlarimer's idea. i don't recognize the obvious when it bites me on the nose) here.

you know what? i hate the word girlfriend. i just do. it has several associations for me, none of them good:

1. a pair of thirteen-year-olds, one girl and one boy. possibly in black and white, possibly exchanging a daisy chain or a plastic ring.
2. when you're in kindergarten and you 'marry' your 'boyfriend' using a toy plastic ring with another little kid officiating.
3. a gay man saying 'girlfriend' in that little voice.
4. a sorority girl. 'me and a couple of my girlfriends are going to the beach for a week.'

it doesn't convey the proper concept. what then? to say 'we're dating'? or 'cim's special friend'? 'significant other'? 'life partner'? the bottom line is that labels are odious when you've already got an idea of what you are, and then someone comes along later wanting to apply a label to it. labels are congenial only when you're familiar with them before you identify with them, and thus don't have conflicting clusters of associations for yourself and the word.

possibly labels are always odious, period, since they tend to have unpleasant effects.

but dad has kept saying to people 'cim's friend' all the time wax was here, dictating letters mostly but also out loud, and i just want to kick him in the nuts (which he wouldn't feel since he has no feeling below the nipples, but still). wtf is 'cim's friend'? she's not my fucking friend, you fucking twat. for one thing, i'm not ashamed, so why use a totally ambiguous word like that? for another thing, it sounds condescending.
