i slept well. for the first time, really, in a while. i have to work in an hour and forty-five minutes. and i still have to eat, too.

i like getting up early--it's nice when the house is lit only by pale sunlight and you're the only one moving around, making tea, sitting down in front of the computer when the room is cast in shades of gray like a picture with the saturation turned down. i really value my before-work hours. if i'm scheduled too early i don't have time to check my email AND get writing done, and that's very sad. >.> in fact, if i want to get any writing done, i guess i have to go do it.

i used to read one good story every morning before i went to school, back in high school. i'd hunt through new things and stop when i had one that satisfied, or else re-read old ones.

maybe that's a good idea. it's a nice way to break the fic-fast of the night.

today's breakfast was mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmh. surfacing: at last by yahtzee, qui-gon/obi-wan, pg. it's the first part of a series which is in the star wars part of my recs page.

there's no question of moving out of the front end because i don't want to, so it's between staying a sacker and becoming a checker (cashier, for those of y'all who don't live in texas).

sacker:
more exciting. sees more customers and more other workers. walks around, looking for where she'll be most useful. sorting groceries into sacks on the fly? is fun. it's kinda like tetris.

but a sacker has to go outside more. it's REALLY hot outside.

plus, i'm an excellent sacker. i'm valuable because i'm fast, efficient, intelligent, enthusiastic, etc. and i do a really good job of sacking too (i'm not saying it takes a lot of intelligence to do that, but the fact is many people don't).

checker:
pays more. is a position of slightly more... trust? gets to stay in the ac all day.

but has to stay mostly in the same position, which might make it harder to chat and watch managers, which i love to do.

on the other hand, it MIGHT not be harder to watch the managers... they're right there in front of you more or less. and when you need authorization or checks or whatever you get to call them over.

i'd be a new checker though, and as such, less valuable, i would imagine. there are checkers with great amounts of experience. i don't have that. i might consequently get fewer hours.
