many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyuuketsukirui for two betas, both remarkably quick.  also to [livejournal.com profile] perhael for cheerleading, [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism for a once-over, and [livejournal.com profile] stellaluna_ for certain character discussions.
"What happened?"

Danny just looks at her. "He tied my tie, Aiden."

She lifts her hands apologetically, "Hey, I'm not asking for a re-enactment."

I am, Danny thinks before he can stop himself. He takes a drink instead of massaging his forehead.

it seems like i've seen a big rash of people joining communities, and posting little apologies blah blah blah but they're new and want recs.

that's what recs pages are for.

this isn't even on a par with people who can't be arsed to lurk for a while and watch the community dynamic (which, on an lj community, can be accomplished in less than an hour, probably, by skimming back posts).

this is on a par with people who post to communities asking how to do things on programs they own that they ought to find in the help file.

even if a newbie doesn't know about [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, those fandom/pairing manifesto comms, or [livejournal.com profile] recsrainbow (an update journal that includes a lot of people's recs pages and recs blogs), they can't possibly be on the internet, can they, without knowing how to use a search engine?

i often respond to these people by linking my and other people's recs pages, hoping this will be a subtle reminder of where one should maybe start to go when one is looking for recs.  but on consideration, can i really hold out much hope that this gets the message across?
