last night we made
anglepoiselamp and
shiroi_chi watch the last two eps of csi:ny and the csi finale with us (as well as some doctor who and possibly something else that i've already forgotten).
doctor who was beautiful. it's not all that rare that we're left staring at the screen when people are being gay and going "wait - was that on purpose?" (see csi:ny review below), and it's nice that when the show is made by russell t. davies, you don't have to ask because you always know it was on purpose. suddenly last week's slightly lingering solo hero introduction for jake (who looks like a more cheekboney iceman, so i shall call him ice cousin) suddenly makes sense. in fact about halfway through this week's episode, when mickey came back to tell the group about ricky's death and we got such a lingering shot of jake's reactions, i was torn between "what is the point of this jake development" and "hey, wouldn't it make a great au story if mickey kind of fell in love with jake and stayed there to replace his counterpart as jake's lover? too bad they wouldn't do that. i can see the fic now." and then... and then they did it, and they rode off into the sunset together. to spend their honeymoon fighting crime in paris. i just. i. i. and okay, now it's canon there doesn't even need to be fic, except i still want to read it.
it was kind of inconvenient watching csi:ny from one of our ikea footcubes in front of the two armchairs, which were occupied by sugar and wax, because when aöskldjföaskljfaslkdjöföaslkf* i was trying to grab wax and squeeze her, and all i could easily reach were her left hand and left knee. for me, watching csi:ny now, it feels emotionally very much like danny and mac are in a very charming honeymoon phase now after having finally gotten together in the episode that ended with them cuddling and danny sobbing into mac's shoulder outside the hospital. this would make the episodes more fun to watch anyway, but then hello. because:
* wasn't that rather tender slow-mo hand-to-hand combat demonstration kind of a flashback to a really important grissom/sara scene from fairly early in the series? you know, when sara was mentally fucked-up, and grissom was keeping himself apart from her and turning her down, and he tried to act out some kind of crime that involved him trapping her between his body and the wall, pinning her wrists beside her head, and then she ran away flustered? i mean, granted, danny didn't get horribly flustered and run away. but this makes sense if we assume that far from suffering from angst and ust still he's quite happy in his honeymoon phase. and god. god. watching that scene. the neck-caressing, and the sheer adorableness. it looked to me like danny might have gotten just slightly flustered, even though he was almost completely calm with the whole thing, but perhaps he finds being manhandled distracting. meanwhile, mac didn't seem to be taking extra conscious care to manhandle him so tenderly; he was quite focused on his train of thought but apparently enjoying the contact with his primitive lizard brain. in fact, i am not sure it really occurred to mac that he was very tenderly manhandling danny, or that they were both enjoying it. he didn't get danny into that situation for an excuse to grope him. oh, no. mac is so adorably serious, his train of thought was more "i'm sure that i can trust danny to do a completely outstanding job as my live hand-to-hand combat demonstration dummy! how nice that i can trust danny like this. he will help me think through the case a bit." whereas danny's, i conjecture, was a bit like: "oh my god, mac, we haven't been sleeping together for that long - mm - aw, this is nice. also, mac's obliviousness is kind of cute."
and the last episode did not disappoint either. i was very impressed with danny's conduct when mac was trapped in the building. and kind of heart-broken by the frantic way his control just kind of vanished as soon as they reached the hole and lunged forward yelling "mac!" ;.; oh, danny. he got lucky there.
and on a slightly different note about the finale, it was like they made it just for
wax_jism. there are few things she likes better than emergency field medicine, but gary sinise performing emergency field medicine is definitely one of those very few things.
all right... csi. i'm not really going to comment on the plot, except for how i'm still waiting with ill-concealed impatience for warrick and catherine to have sex like those spoilers said last year. HOWEVER, what i am going to say is about grissom and sara again, and that is: FINALLY. and also WHAT THE FUCK, CSI.
six whole fucking seasons of this back-and-forth bullshit with grissom and sara, all those agonising little scenes, and now they're just all "heh. hey dudes, we forgot to tell you that they're kind of sleeping together already." excuse me? what? if they don't explain themselves more fully later, i will be severely displeased.
in conclusion,
anglepoiselamp brought a bottle of triple sec and i was able to determine that the best way to watch ancient doctor who (4th and 5th doctors in this case) is after two margaritas. i didn't really grasp even the parts of the 5-doctors film that i did watch (as opposed to walking the dog and preparing eggs-in-a-basket and apricot tea for everybody), but it sure was mildly entertaining! also, i think i had some vague tezuryo bunnies, but fortunately they are not gnawing my arms off like the more robust "dreaming on the radio" and "since last goodbye" bunnies - since they are going to have to wait till after my next two writing projects. hey,
shiroi_chi: don't forget i want a picture of your tezuka lookalike!

Date: 22 May 2006 01:02 pm (UTC)Me too! Because I want to read about them cavorting around Paris and Mickey learniong how to kick Cyberman arse and wondering if Jake is in love with him because of him, or because he's Ricky's double, and *wibble*
... Yeah, so I've been keeping myself sane today by thinking of this. So sue me. The inside of my head is a much nicer place than the outside, right now. Gah.

Date: 23 May 2006 10:18 am (UTC)and hello, the chance that the reference to the grissom/sara scene seems down below 50% to me.
wait, that wasn't the proper spock way to deliver probability: the odds against its being an accident are 1 point 06042 to one.
