csi & criminal minds

there weren't very many seconds of the last two episodes of csi that i haven't loved, but the main thing of course is
liev schreiber.
...a foolproof way to make me like anything i watch, let alone what is already one of my favourite shows.
meanwhile, in the same two eps, we've got:
I. grissom's going-away scenesA. NICK. "stop hugging me." THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS. this one was totally the win.
B. sara. more grissom/sara! and not only is it sweet, it's hilarious. he really cares yet is so utterly clueless, and such an emotional retard, which you can clearly see sara thinking, just as if it were written on her forehead.
C. hodges. hodges is an incredibly successful secondary character who just gets funnier and funnier later, and he's a true jester-figure in that there's also always something sad about him. this time the pathos and hilarity were so well blended that i was more touched than i ever have been by his genuine affection for grissom. i find myself hoping grissom has affection for him too.
D. catherine. her eye-rolly attitude to grissom will never stop being beautiful.
E. greg. i went "awww" several times.
II. the miniature killerA. ANOTHER MINIATURE.
B. this means that the case wasn't solved. was the suicide not the true miniature killer? do we have a copycat? a posthumous message? WE DON'T KNOW.
C. the miniature killer was already the most awesome overarching csi plot to ever awesome, and then it got awesomer.
III. lievA. he's so... LIEV.
B. the character is great too.1. all the awkward moments when he says weird or obsessive things.
2. the ways he reminds me of grissom. (are they acquaintances?)
3. he's bizarre. he likes working with noise. he's a little absent-minded and a little finicky. he wears a silly suit.
C. we already have a mystery about him! what were all those phone messages? who is frank?
D. his entrance - awesome. even the back of his neck, which was the first visible bodypart, was awesome.
IV. miscellaneous character developmentsA. we've been seeing a bit more of catherine lately, a real developing character arc, and i really like it. it makes sense with her taking on more responsibility in the department, the things that are happening to her, getting older. i like what i see. i wonder if we're going to get more in the sam plot. somehow i think we are.
B. greg. still going with the civil suit, i see. not much screen time in this episode, but i'm confident that his big brothers are going to have more opportunities to want to knock heads together on his behalf.
C. being with grissom makes sara look very mature.
and as a kind of footnote, nowhere near as lengthy, they didn't have time for much of anything to do with that this episode, but they still threw it out there, the transition to the computer room back home with morgan going "garcia's going to love this." they didn't even talk to each other. ah well. perhaps next week.

Date: 20 Jan 2007 10:31 pm (UTC)i'm very glad the powers that be in criminal minds have garcia/morgan in mind. i wish they'd give me more! but at least this was reassuring. i really want to see something to do with morgan's recently revealed past, but i suppose that's far too much to hope for. oh well.

And the miniature killer cliffhanger made me go wheeee because I found the (fake?) conclusion of the story arch something of a letdown. I was so sure there had to be more to it! Now maybe there will be.
