I cry foul on there being no ticky boxes! I want equal amount of Morgan/Garcia and Morgan/Reid. Actually, all three together would be nice also. Unfortunately, every time I dip my toe into CM fic I have my eyes burnt by Reid/Hotch or Reid/Gideon. Why,people? Why?
Although not, I should clarify, in that I think they shouldn't exist. I'd be perfectly happy for it to be evenly distributed as long as there was enough of what I want to read! But all there is is a lot of Reid/Morgan, pretty much. And some Hotch, sometimes, I think.
reading your poll I just realised something, which is that in my mind, there is no earthly reason why the canonical pairings would egt more fic than others. I think in my head it goes something like 'but it's canon! canon gives it! i need/want the OTHER stuff from fic!"
which is bullshit, because, well, Mulder/Scully, and Harry/Ginny, etc. But still, I think depending on the size of the fandom and maybe the average the age of the public / their fandom-age and savvy-ness, one might be able to find correlations between canon ships / lack of fic...
anyway. might be completely stupid, but like I said, I just realised the way my brain was decoding the question and got interested in that. *likes own navel!*
To me there's a big difference between an established canonical pairing and a bursting-with-UST but still unresolved canonical pairing. Which explains fully the mad popularity of Mulder/Scully, which was also well-represented in fic. Harry/Ginny, well, is well-represented because this is Harry Potter and everything is pretty represented, especially shippy het. Not that I can't like established pairings, but for the same reason that established relationship fic is less popular, I believe, fic about established ones is less popular, because it's first-time zing, the BANG! of breaking tension after the buildup of UST, that makes up the majority of people's craving. And while there's never anything in the way of pairings without canonical support, the more that one could interpret as UST, the more feverish that interest generally is, to my mind, at least on the part of shippers and others open to the idea. Suggestive dialogue, suggestive touching, emotional closeness, these are nectar to fans... and then sometimes it seems like they're only interesting if a girl isn't involved, when you look at a canon like CM's.
*nodsnodsnods* I realized right after I posted that resolved vs unresolved makes obviously - or should make, it seems - a difference in desire /need for /existence of fic...
