Did you know that Hacky Sack is a brand name? It's actually called a "footbag".

That seems even funnier at 5 am than 5 pm, and it's still pretty damn good right now.

I've always wondered why it's not 'play hacky sack' in the Sims.

Huh. Learn something new every day.

Yeah it seems like a lot of words in the English language are like that, but tonight I can only think of Kleenex(™!!!)

Q-tips! I used to wonder about that one. Do they even have a non-brand specific name?

Not to mention just about every over-the-counter drug - aspirin and tynenol, to name a few.

Google! Heh.

Hoover for vacuum. And in the southeast, "Coke" means any carbonated beverage.

...I never knew there was a brand name for footbags. Though I think I've heard the brand name somewhere but it didn't register as good clean fun. (I don't know what it registered as but come on, it does sound vaguely compromising!)

Was it a brand name first?

I ask because of Elastix(tm), about which I am still furious and bitter.

It didn't say anything about appropriation in the wikipedia article, so I guess it was.
