A tomb from the 1700s of a noble Marshal in the army. The lower two statues are of him and his wife; the one above is Jesus. It's very difficult to get a good photo, but this tomb is magical and gorgeous, the walls luminous dark blue with a gold and red pattern painted on them.

Queen Katerina of Sweden, wife of Erik, was a total peasant and they had an epic romantic story. She was exiled to Finland after he was dethroned, and she was very popular here. This is her tomb.

There are few pieces of medieval architecture I love more than well-preserved/intact wall paintings. They're so rare!

There are quite a few of them in our cathedral. This was the second-biggest city in the Swedish empire at the time when they were building the first Catholic churches there (late 1100s - 1200s). Later the paintings were covered over, I understand, and it took considerable work to uncover them again. They're very clear and pretty vibrant, I think.
