the book of the gods and the book of lost swords - fred saberhagen
white teeth - zadie smith
perdido street station - china mieville
if i pay thee not in gold - mercedes lackey and piers anthony (maybe not; i don't particularly like either of them)
any cj cherryh i wish. we have too much of it, and i figure i owe it another try even if i did despise rusalka, because the foreigner series is one of my favorites in creation.

[edit: and this is by far my favorite icon. look at jago! she's unbelievably cool, if you read the foreigner series, and then she's also really hot, and she's the first alien on this planet to screw a human. and she and bren are so cute. there are some eminently combustible moments in invader. so yeah. and her big gun! her pretty little braids! her black leather! i'm in love.]

Curse of Chalion is *fabulous*. Diplomatic Immunity is not her best Miles book, though it's perfectly fine. One of those 'if you like Vorkosigan books, you'll like this Vorkosigan book' things.

read China Mieville: the rest can wait. (Sorry: harsh: but it's wonderful)

(Oh, and Cherryh? Try Cyteen, definitely not fantasy - her fantasy either clicks or you hate it - and utterly fascinating: psychosocial engineering and a truly wonderful relationship)

hm--i think we might have that one in hardback. definitely tripoint, which is also sf. she just writes so much of it, the prospect is difficult.

mom isn't done with the mieville yet anyway. besides which, and i say this without having yet read it--she can't possibly be as good as samuel r delany.

mmmh. <3

I find some of Cherryh's SF hard going: maybe Cyteen works because the science is softer?

And China is definitely male (many female SF fans squee in his presence. Most embarrassing)
