cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (she's so refined)

[personal profile] cimorene: Sometimes I want to take out a billboard world-wide about Uggs being slippers, not street shoes. It's gotten to the point that 70% of the autumn outfits in the H&M online catalog are styled with imitation Uggs [This is an exaggeration, of course. It's only the casual outfits - over 50% of H&M outfits are styled with trashy-looking trend-slave heels, as usual.]
[personal profile] isilya: OH MY GOD. And also, I want to shame everyone who owns Crocs.
Cim: Okay, in the H&M plus-size section, they have this image of a hot, chubby woman... wearing yoga pants tucked into fake Uggs and a long tunic and a sweatercoat with big butterfly sleeves and a shawl collar, if I remember right.
Cim: And she's like, wearing makeup and styled hair! And carrying a status bag!
Cim: YOU DO REALIZE THAT THAT OUTFIT IS PAJAMAS, RIGHT
Cim: Are you a trophy wife stopping to pick up groceries on the way to get your kids from soccer before going to the gym? No? THEN PUT ON SOME DAMN PANTS AND SHOES.

Crocs are perfectly acceptable for (a) kids and (b) around the house and yard. OWNING them isn't a crime.

They're great for kids who don't have the coordination to put on their own shoes yet, trust me. And for potty-training, as they are easily rinseable!

Ah, point. They're good if treating shoes as a sacrificial layer.

There really is not all that much excuse for convention guests to be wearing Crocs, though I imagine they're less obviously "slippers" than slippers would be.

There is no such thing as imitation ugg boots! It's a generic term for sheepskin boots! Kyah!
...but yes, definitely slippers.

I think the Croc clogs are ugly but I bought some of the sandals earlier this year because I found it otherwise impossible to find non-leather ones that suited.

Well, yes, but trademarking a particular country's generic term for a product and then litigating companies (including charities) from that country to prevent them from using their generic term to sell online (or in the US in general) is profoundly jerky.

I would just like to note for posterity that I know zero Australians who rant about Uggs vs uggs.

And you're welcome to use it however you wish, I'm just contractually obliged to raise awareness of this Very Serious Issue of today. *nods sagely*

I see an awful lot of girls on campus wearing Uggs, hideous oversize hoodies or fleece pullovers, and saggy-ass sweatpants. And then they straighten their hair and put on a full face of makeup. LADIES. I know you are nice and toasty in there, but there are ways to be nice and toasty without looking like your head and body are from completely different planets!

Okay, I am just a random passerby checking out your 'shows' tag, but this just made my day.

May I post it on [community profile] metaquotes?

I was boggled when I saw two of the professional dancers on this season of "Dancing with the Stars" (U.S. version) who were dancing (in practices) in Uggs. It seemed a little OTT to me. I think they're profoundly ugly. (I nearly typed uggly.)

Crocs, while ugly (well, some styles) have two things going for them: they have molded foot beds that give great arch support and they weigh next to nothing. For those reasons they are actually good shoes for walking around (groceries, errands, con-going) for people with certain orthopedic issues of the legs. Sometimes style has to take a backseat when you've got bad joints.
