It's funny. The response that I have to union jacks, especially on bovver boots, is pretty negative. Funny because my only encounters with skinheads was positive, at least in the UK. But even now, if I see a flag in the window of a pub, I'm unlikely to go in.

Hah, flagalia is rampant in North America but I still have that response to it. Whereas the Union Jack there is reminiscent of Spice Girls-era fashion, and high-fashionized-80s punk.

Yeah, it's totally innocuous here. Didn't know it was politically ugly in the UK, though. :( Then again, if I see an American flag proudly displayed at an establishment, I do assume the politics of the owners and clientele are right-wing, so...yeah. Makes sense.
