I don't identify with River Song at all (though I liked her more in the finale than I have in past episodes) and I don't approve of her actions towards The Fez, but I probably would approve if it was Uggs or Crocs, but that doesn't give anyone the right to physically intervene in someone else's choices, and if she did that in real life I'd hate her and probably punch her for being a horrible judgemental person.

LOL. Well, when I get past the srs bzns there, I have to admit that it would be pretty ballsy of you to punch someone who'd just shot something, even an item of apparel, with a big gun. If I am ever involved in intergalactic shenanigans, I want you on my team!

I confess I don't get the anti-Crocs sentiment. They seem like incredibly practical shoes to me: perfect for warm, rainy days when you don't want your shoes to turn into a swamp and it's wet enough that your feet will slip right out of flip-flops, but when you can't just go barefoot for whatever reason.

I can't see how rubber shoes with holes in them are practical for actual rain. They are of course more firmly attached to your feet than flip-flops, but they're still not made for situations where it's important that your shoes stay on. On the other hand, I've never been exposed to a hot downpour in a situation with an intermediate level of shoe stability required; the frequency of that sort of situation depends on climate, of course. If I ever was in one, I wouldn't be the least surprised by (or critical of) armies of people going barefoot or in any sort of rubber or plastic shoe, really. But of course, Crocs are very common, and only a fraction of the times when they are all over the place is any sort of precipitation a factor.

Ugg boots are SLIPPERS people. They're for keeping your feet WARM, in the HOUSE. They are NOT outdoor shoes.

Okay, I can see why you might want a sheepskin lined boot in the snow, for example, but I still think it looks naff.

Yes, and they do look like very nice slippers! If they weren't so expensive, I would buy a pair. As slippers. Similarly, Crocs have their place, and that place is the garden. If I had one, I might want some Crocs.

There are plenty of sheepskin boots that aren't bedroom slippers out there. Classic Uggs may have a sturdy construction (I mean, I've never investigated) and are undoubtedly cosy, but they don't have the sort of insole and outsole desirable in a snowboot.

In my (relevant, Australian) experience an ugg boot is a bit of sheepskin sewn onto a thong/flip-flop base. There is no sturdy.

Oh. That does make sense! So, like a regular bedroom slipper, but with more foam on the bottom then. Distressing to think you'd pay that much for them considering that I personally tend to go through non-foamed sheepskin slippers at the rate of ~2 pairs per year. (Though in Australia I'd hope it's warmer.)

I own a fez but have shame when it comes to wearing ridiculous hats. I do not have shame when it comes to ugly comfy shoes because I have bloody bastard osteoarthritic old lady feet and would wear bin bags on them if it helped. Put it this way: I am currently wearing Fit Flops. Fit Flops. FFS.

Well, the thing with orthopedic shoes is that no matter how ugly they are, you never go, "Why would you wear that?" It's obvious. Uggs, on the other hand, while no doubt very cosy and excellent bedroom slippers, have no proper footbed at all. Crocs do have a molded footbed, making them obviously superior to, say, flip-flops, but they're not really great on health and safety (considering that for example you can't safely wear them on escalators) and on top of that, they're both ugly and subject to ridiculous brand-name price inflation.
