the ancestry thing.
2 Aug 2002 12:38 pmi'm a semitic slav, tralalala.
1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from?
my great-grandparents were: 1) russian jew; 1) brit; 2) polish jews; and 4) other polacks, with a tiny amount of irish, scottish, german and such mixed in.
2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit?
hm. probably scotland. or russia?
3. Which would you least like to visit? Why?
poland just seems boring to me. also, i'm pretty pissed at the majority of that part of my family.
4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage?
we celebrate channukah and passover--in a non-religious, or at least non-believing, manner--to honor my paternal grandmother, who felt that that heritage was very important.
5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)?
the russian jew came over in the russian revolution; the brit came via canada when she was 18; my great-grandmother lillian moved with her family from poland when she was a child, and her husband henry did too, separately, i believe. on my mother's side of the family, the most recent emigrants are more like five generations back.
