Interest in a Legolas/Gimli fest?

How many other people are having this problem where The Hobbit is mostly making them want more Legolas/Gimli?

Like, I think maybe a lot, because I’ve been getting waves of comments and kudos on the fic I wrote when I was a teenager which, in my 10-years-older eyes, is more generous than its quality deserves.

But it seems from a glance at AO3 that we’ve mostly seen a spike in Legolas/Gimli consumption without the corresponding spike in production. In fact, there’s been some, but the vast majority is in the form of spikes in Legolas/Gimli as a background pairing to (mostly Thorin/Bilbo).

I wonder if the level of interest would be enough to support a fest?

This post on Tumblr, where a few enthusiastic yeses have sprung up... not enough for a fest quite yet though I think (21).

I've never organized a fest! Anyone got any tips?

I would totally read more Legolas/Gimli, myself. I've never organized a fest either.

I will have to hold out hope that someone who knows what they're doing comes along and points me towards a useful resource. :D In the meantime, it's nice that it looks like there's enough interest at least for a small one.

I feel like a stalker saying this, but your recent spate of Legolas/Gimli bookmarks on Pinboard have definitely made me want more. (That, and following surroundedbydorks, who keeps reblogging fanart.)

I first felt the urge right after the film last year, but when I initially looked on Ao3, I gave up after very few fics because a cursory examination looked like the vast majority was extremely short (lots of sub-drabbles and ficlets around a few hundred words), and what remained mostly still had an unfinished feel/weren't very good.

But I was more determined this week and used the advanced search to filter it down and sort it by descending number of kudos, which always makes it easier to start, and I actually did find some things that were well worth reading!

Although I should probably go back through Library of Moria and Axe and Bow as well. There are a lot of things there that I've read multiple times but not bookmarked.

As I just said to anatsuno (who pointed me here): the noise I just made was not human. I always want more Legolas/Gimli, oh my god, yes.

It definitely looks like we have enough interest for SOME kind of fest now, though maybe not enough for an exchange. A few people interested in fic-and-art, but not sure if there's enough artist interest for that.

I can confirm it's true from my perspective also! Am getting as many kudos and comments on my one Legolas/Gimli fic as on things I wrote last year.

I don't have experience either, but - can't you do it in a fairly automated way on AO3 now?

+ Oh, good point, I should investigate their FAQs and things.

It'll definitely need to wait until after Yuletide, anyway, so there's some time to investigate.
