Spiders = money. It could be a pretty adult metaphor, all right ...

Neither, I think, going by later observations: there's a bin of plastic insects and all of the kids seem to play with it sometimes, even the ones who are afraid of real insects... for unknown reason they were strewn nearby (along with other types of toys that were also strewn around, though, it wasn't the only option).
