--the potential the human mind has for total and complete irrationality? it's like i have a whole little piecemeal cloak to go over reality inside my own head, complete with all these little rules and things to follow, and i punish myself if i break them. it's like literature, sort of--i mean the common history and landscape of literature--only crazier. really crazy. in a beautiful way. there's something pretty about pain, and it's not because pain is good, but it's because... it's what it is, something with as many subtle shadings of experience, as much to offer in the way of personal insight, as pleasure. and then there's the sheer wonder of having it.
