There's a whole world out there of miniature high Design (particularly midcentury) chairs that people collect, to my amusement. And I do love design chairs, and chairs in general, and who doesn't love miniature versions of things, since they're so cute?

But personally I think it would be way better to collect miniature Design light fixtures, which would be way more useful as Christmas ornaments. Particularly Alvar Aalto, Verner Panton and Louis Poulsen, Arredoluce and Stilnovo, but above all, Kaiser Leuchten. I find all of these incredibly pleasing and I kind of want to play with little scale models of them, but even at non-vintage-collectible-prices they are mostly too large, grand, space age or silly for our house. (Though we did buy two overly large and very silly chandeliers already, this 3-armed Ikea Simrishamn chrome Art Deco chandelier and this copycat quartet of Panton for LP's Topan - they were so shiny! - but like, not THAT large and silly.)

I wonder if this is how people get into making miniatures...
