Deep As You Go (6664 words) by Destina
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Highlander: The Series
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Duncan MacLeod/Methos
Characters: Joe Dawson, Duncan MacLeod, Methos
Additional Tags: Early Work
Summary:
Duncan and Methos try to find a middle ground in their relationship as a starting point for more.
Bookmarker's Notes:This lyrical piece of classic Destina angst-romance is barely distinguishable as early work. I find it psychologically interesting that the internal struggle presented here isn't Methos's dislike of publicity or Duncan's moral judgment, but Duncan's fear of commitment. It feels like it's cutting through some symbolism to the real theme underneath.
The Matryoshka Principle (11001 words) by Amand_r
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Highlander: The Series
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Duncan MacLeod/Methos
Characters: Duncan MacLeod, Methos, Original Characters
Summary:
Duncan raised his sword a little, pointing the tip out at the water. "You know, Rich, this has been an interesting conversation and all, but I think I was supposed to comb your hair."
Bookmarker's Notes:I love stories where the characters make spirit journeys and meet deities and ghosts and this is a really good one.
The Declaration (8305 words) by terma_archivist (Aristide)
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Highlander: The Series
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Duncan MacLeod/Methos (Highlander)
Characters: Duncan MacLeod, Methos (Highlander)
Additional Tags: Fluff, First Time, Schmoop
Summary:
Another Duncan/Methos first time story. All traces of plot have been hunted down and meticulously excised. This is a fluffy and schmoopy thing—you might as well go read a Hallmark card.
Bookmarker's Notes:Duncan wants to transcend their past and fix what's wrong between them, and Methos has a surprising suggestion. Aristide is a classic and I guess mostly well-known for PWPs like this. Not sure if this predates their Due South fic that I'm more familiar with.
Circle Dance (18757 words) by Chris_Quinton
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Highlander: The Series
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Duncan MacLeod/Methos (Highlander)
Characters: alias Graham Scott, alias Aidan Whittaker, That Bloody Cat [TBC], Original Characters
Additional Tags: Fluff
Summary:
A change of name, a change of place--a change of pace--but his past won’t leave him in peace...
Bookmarker's Notes:This is long enough post series that the canon character names aren't even mentioned. A charming small scale romantic comedy in a pair of thatched cottages with gardens, featuring a village of side characters and a tomcat. I'm quite fond of this sort of bucolic setting for fic, but this one stands out because of the POV character's comedically intense grumpiness.
Non-AO3 work
Straight and Low (15354 words) by Esjay
Complete, 1/1
Fandom: Highlander
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Violence, Murder, Death (the comedy kind)
Relationships: Duncan Macleod/Methos (plus Methos/others)
Additional Tags: slapstick, Joe's bar, sexual orientation
Bookmarker's summary:
A dark comedy with plenty of farce in which Methos won't sleep with him because Adam Pierson is straight, so Duncan spends the fic trying to kill him in front of witnesses. I remembered how funny I found this years ago and had to go on quite a quest to find it, since it's not on AO3 and I couldn't remember the author's exact name.
