I wonder whether you share my horror at the growing popularity of "huff" as a verb in fic?

Huh. I haven't noticed it growing recently! I'm aware that it is used as a verb, but I think I knew it as one from books before I got into fanfiction, because I've never taken note of any particular changes in it. Of course, one isn't so apt to notice them if they're slight or gradual, so maybe you've observed a more sudden change due to the particular things you're reading having adopted it enthusiastically?

I've been seeing it across fandoms and guessing that it's a younger writers' thing, but it puts me off similar to seeing adult characters described as pouting. I'm sure one can huff legitimately but I feel if there is huffing in the first three paragraphs it needs to be supported by the plot ;)
