Now Mr. Ethelbert Snuper was exactly the reverse.

Actually it is an advantage to Snuper that he looks exactly like everyone else, because he's a private detective, and nobody ever notices him! Freeman makes a running joke of this in the later Thorndyke stories, a bit like Ashley Nicole Black's secret agent character from A Black Lady Sketch Show.
