Thimble antiquing is a thing

I guess I need to look for a vintage thimble. And to find my size, I need to measure the last knuckle on my middle finger. Which should take like ten seconds, only I keep forgetting when I could reach the tape measure and remembering when I can't.

Yesterday I slipped and fell on the ice and made something in my upper back twinge. So it was a little sore all day, but this morning it seems mostly gone. And it never got bad like the time when I threw out my back (such a colorful phrase), though I could feel that it was a much smaller version of the same thing, and higher up. So I've been alternating between annoyed wincing and deep gratitude that it's not worse.

I think I also need some kind of... a thimble or something for my middle finger because of the way I hold the finishing knife, the blade leans against the last knuckle >3>) IDK if they make articulated thimbles like that, though.

I'm sorry about your back. Be sure to stay warm until it heals properly.

Hmm... articulated... no, I think not metal ones. There are leather thimbles, so maybe a long one? But if you need the finger to bend at the knuckle, a thimble, at least the kind that exists now, is probably too short, but there might be some other longer kind of finger guard in existence. Or you could just find a leather worker somewhere and ask them about it, they could probably just make a longer one.

In that case I might as well get, like... an archery glove, I guess. That would probably work just as well, and stand up about as well as a leather thimble of some sort :|c

There are different thicknesses of leather, don't forget! I've seen some images that looked so thick I didn't realize they were leather at first. But an archery glove sounds pretty fun, so I wouldn't dissuade you.

This morning when I woke up I thought I felt all better so I didn't wear my little velcro back brace thingy (purchased a couple years ago, really hot and uncomfortable, can't go around waist without wrinkling up). But then it started making twinges known pretty much as soon as I got to work after all, though again, fairly mild discomfort, not like AGONNNYYY like my case of noidannuoli a couple years ago.

So I'll definitely be wearing the brace tomorrow. And a sweater.

They make protective mesh gloves that might work. I found out they're good for needlefelting. I wish I'd known when I tried to learn needlefelting, because that shit really hurts.

Oh that's really interesting! I've seen needle-felting supplies at the shops that sell materials for other fiber arts but I've never happened to see those. I got an embroidery thimble for now, which is big enough to fit, but it's like a half of a thimble that just covers the pad of the finger with sort of adjustable rings going around the back, and so it doesn't sit completely securely in place. On the plus side it doesn't get all sweaty though I guess, so we'll see. Maybe it will work so well that I won't need to look for a vintage one after all, although now that I know about them I have to admit I'm kinda fascinated.

Thimble collecting is a whole thing. You can get little display shelves and everything.

The good news is, it looks like a lot of display cases are sized for both thimbles and Lego people.

I had a bunch of favorite Lego people when I was a teenager that I even wanted to take with me when I moved out, including the Lego dragon from my castle and dungeon set. Could definitely liven up a display with thimbles in between though.

I have a bunch of whatever that not Lego brand is super heroes. I should put them in a case.

I had Kirk and Spock from those ones who look a bit like Lego but about three times as tall, but they got lost in a move at some point and apparently they're now rare collectors' items, tragically.

But yes, definitely the best use for them is to pose them in a diorama.

That's the same brand, but they decided to go mostly Lego compatible after a few releases. I have the Kirk and Spock somewhere and should make them a shadow box if they ever turn up again.
