The maddening thing is telling a doctor that you're anxious and upset about it and them acting like it's irrational or a problem in you. No, it's reasonable fear for the world!

It is not irrational at all. Your doctor must be living in a snow globe.

I'm so sorry. This is not the outcome I was hoping for, either. On the plus side, he can't ever run again for president without an almost-impossible-to-achieve constitutional amendment and age is chasing him hard. Also, we get to vote in the midterms in just two years. Losing the house or senate can hamstring the second half of his administration, so that's something to set as a goal.
