2233 - James Kirk is born, in Iowa on Earth, on March 22. (This is based on The Deadly Years)
2271 - STTMP (making him... 38 then)
...Then they do go on another 5-year mission, according to conjecture, returning in 2276...
2277 - Spock accepts command of the Enterprise; Jim=44
2281 - Kirk retires from Starfleet, age 48
2284 - Kirk returns to Starfleet as an instructor, age 51
2285 - STII - WoK - 'Admiral James Kirk celebrates his 52nd birthday.'

Hmm. This doesn't quite look right. I will check the Encyclopedia (haven't been in a position to do so since I last commented), and will let you know what it says.

she didn't use an encyclopedia, but it was my understanding that it was some official sort of something or other. at any rate, i have them both employed at the Academy between st:tmp and stii:twok, and jim turning 55.

I took the dates from the Official Star Trek Chronology, by the ever-omniscient Okudas. ^___^

Well! I stand corrected. That is indeed the official canonical list of dates. However, in STII, everyone says that the events of "Space Seed", which the chronology places in 2267, took place fifteen years previously (preserving the relationship in production time), not eighteen; I don't know why that's been altered. I guess it's just another of the recalculated dates of which Star Trek history is full. After all, in "Tomorrow is Yesterday" Jim says that two hundred years will just about take them from the time they are stranded in (the 1960s) to his own time - but the time line gives it as three hundred.

I should stop thinking about these things.
