cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (better living through orgasm)
for the first time in like three years, someone has showed up in the better living through orgasm campaign headquarters to complain that he doesn't get it.

so is this all supposed to just be a joke, or do i sense some more serious undertones to this? I notice a lot of rainbow-colored icons...so maybe this somehow refers to homosexuality?

i didn't think it was possible to not get something like "better living through orgasm".  the phrase could hardly be clearer.  i replied that there was nothing about it that wasn't self-explanatory, which... pretty much gives the whole meaning... and got back,

...that's your answer? Was my initial question rude or something, because I don't believe it was.

no, honey, it wasn't rude, it was just dumb.  i found a few ways to rephrase "it means what it says it means and nothing else and that's what it means".  but i hope he doesn't come back again, because i'm running out of ways to express that particular thought...

ETA: he's back. So you don't believe that "better living" is vague at all? You could mean it in a superficial way..."orgasms make you feel good." Or in a health-conscious way..."Orgasms can improve health." That's why I asked...you say it's a "campaign," and normally campaigns have a point.

um.

ETA2: and we have the most spectacular case of missing the point yet in the comments to this very entry.

I've spent years involved in areas of women's studies, women's health, fertility awareness, sexual liberation, etc and I also found your statement to be vague. I wondered if it was a catchphrase to bring awareness to a more meaningful campaign. If that's all there is to it then it's a shame, a waste, ignorant and yes, stupid. I'm disappointed at the shallow reality behind what could have been a great introduction to something meaningful. I suppose I should not be so shocked at your indignant reaction to this person's question. It seemed awfully valid to me. Are you so surrounded by yes-people that not a single person has brought this to your attention before now? I'm sad to think it.

woooow. okay. i gave up and used a lot of words, some of them multi-syllabic. and then i saw same person again on the "campaign" post--she felt the need to express her disappointment twice. Subject: Lost interest quicklyThis really caught my attention and at first I was applauding the banners but was soon disappointed to notice there was nothing under the surface. and i figured that since i had already clarified my position as far as possible, it was time to say what i really wanted to. i know! pixellated images are always so two-dimensional. i used to have a real problem with that, but once i got over it i got a lot more enjoyment out of the internet.

in a recent blender article, christina aguilera expressed the opinion that beyoncé and britney should make up their minds whether they're innocent or the sort of girl who poses nekkid. she disapproves cowardice and hypocrisy.

this has finally led to some wank by a fanboy who wrote a dear john letter to a christina fans community. i report and summarize the phenomenon in otf_wank here.

Usually I don't bother with it on livejournal. In fact, I often cut corners in my punctuation, as well, to more closely imitate patterns of speech. But don't think that means I wasn't correcting everyone who didn't want to be corrected from the age of three. I think a little lesson is in order, here.

The phrase 'middle school,' like the words 'school' and 'captain,' is only capitalized when part of a proper noun.

Correct: Westlawn Middle School.
Incorrect: Westlawn middle school.

Correct: The middle school rang with the babble of slamming lockers, squeaking shoes and adolescent voices.
Incorrect: I haven't felt so chastized since Middle School.

we now return you to your regularly scheduled lack of capital letters.

[livejournal.com profile] mirabellawotr has posted a letter that seems to encapsulate this.

Dear people who have me friended:

It's come to my attention that someone who prefers not to use names even though everyone knows who she's talking about has posted saying that she's going to start trimming her friends list, and prime targets for the ax are going to be people who have friended any or all of Three Certain People who need to grow up and stop engaging in behavior that most people outgrew in middle school. I have no way of knowing for sure that I'm one of those people, but information suggests that it's me ([livejournal.com profile] mirabellawotr), [livejournal.com profile] cimorene111, and [livejournal.com profile] ninglor.

I wouldn't be posting in response to this ordinarily, but you do have me friended, and I take that seriously. So: if you're worried about this, don't be. If you feel like you need to unfriend me so you can stay on her friends list, go for it - no hard feelings and no harm done, and I hope you'll still stop by from time to time.

It might be worth thinking about, however, that it wasn't us "middle schoolers" who told you that you couldn't be friends with the prom queen anymore if you insisted on talking to the snarky bitches at the back of the class.

Love,
Mirabella

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_gamgee is so incredibly wanky. it wants something, i think, to qualify for fandom_wank--like someone challenging her and her pouncing puffedly.

o.0

posturing like this really needs some kind of fanfare to announce it. the oozing unctuosity! [runs out of readily available alliterations]

alright, someone tell me what happened so i won't have to check the Evil Hated LOTRRPS List? please?

so he read slash... and... what, he didn't like it? c'mon. someone?

[edit: ah. so, she gave ian+boyfriend the link to her site and they actually went there. they signed her guestbook. no one knows yet whether they're pissed or whether they're going to tell anyone else about it or not. on the plus side, now we all know what a moron she is. on the minus side, her site is linked to a lot of other sites which don't want the bad associations. haha. oooooooh, man. morons. can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. er, and also--maybe you could just unsub from the webring yourself if you're worried? i mean, i doubt it'll reduce the # of hits you get so drastically.]

[edit: also. ahem...

I'm pretty damn hard core! Fear me!

i would be more than that, but the kicking-kerosene-pouring stuff's a bit overdone, i thought. if it were more realistic, however... hmph.]
