ian thorpe got all giggly and gushy about pieter van den hoogenband in an interview, apparently. 

and I mean if he was in Australia we would have the hottest 4x2, the hottest 4x100 relays and everything else, I mean we're not going to convince him to do that, because he's a very proud Dutchman, but uh... y'know... I think he might be spending more a bit time in Australia uh... in the next four years.

i wondered that too. i was flabbergasted! but someone over in ian_pieter said that a lot of olympians trained in australia, for some reason, so maybe he has at least a pretext of an excuse.

he sounds like he's hinting to the press that he's going to propose, you know, before he actually pops the question.
