it's still late at night. of the same night. i'm doing... uh... nothing? no that's not it. well, holls went to bed, and that's who i always talk to in the middle of the night, and i would talk to ^kha, but he is reading... or drawing... or something. geez, why do i even have this? who would want to read it? i have a bunch of greek due at 10 am tomorrow. predictably, while i haven't started it, i have spent almost 20 min trying to figure out how to say first "the beautiful way is difficult" and then "the pain of the beautiful" in greek for a graphic for my main fiction page. so i'm pretty lame, but look at this great conversation... extracted from my real diary... i know, shut up.

the circuitous route to the Dark Side of the Force.

cimorene111: fun leads to wanting more fun
cimorene111: more fun leads to playing basketball
cimorene111: playing basketball leads to taking showers
cimorene111: taking showers leads to remembering bad jokes
seg7474: lol
cimorene111: remembering bad jokes leads to hiding your roommate's underwear in the bathroom
cimorene111: that leads to your roommate going there
cimorene111: which leads to loss of tupperware
cimorene111: which leads to needing to put stuff in the refrigerator and not having any
cimorene111: which leads to envy
cimorene111: which leads to jealousy (because they're NOT the same, dammit)
cimorene111: which leads to, um, ...hunger
cimorene111: which leads to eating icecream until you get sick
cimorene111: which leads to... making bad jokes
cimorene111: (wait... did i already say that?)
cimorene111: anyway, that's enough
seg7474: wow
cimorene111: making bad jokes leads to heckling and heckling leads to the Dark Side
cimorene111: :-)
seg7474: i'm never going to have fun again
cimorene111: ROFL
cimorene111: it's a slippery slope, steve
cimorene111: once you have fun, you can't escape any of it
cimorene111: showering...
cimorene111: bad jokes...
cimorene111: hiding roommate's underwear...
seg7474: damn!
cimorene111: loss of tupperware...
seg7474: you're right!
seg7474: ahhhhhhh!
cimorene111: heckling...
cimorene111: :-)

so, probably if i'd copied it straight from im, the colors would be right. but i'm lazy, so deal.

oh, yeah. you might need this quote for that last entry to make sense.

"'I'm sure that Master Yoda has a maxim about how fun leads to the dark side,' said Obi-Wan. 'You know fun leads to humour, humour leads to puns, puns lead to heckling, heckling leads to the dark side.'" -Pumpkin's "High Diving"

so, i work in the art museum as a guard and today when i got there, they have up this new exhibit of awesome mexican folk art called "casa manana." you know anne morrow lindbergh, and charles lindbergh, who flew across the ocean? well, her father, dwight morrow, was a member of the class of 1895 and he was the ambassador to mexico for 3 years. the collection is his and his wife's and oh my god, it's so impressive and gorgeous. i couldn't stop singing shakira all the time i was there, "si es hora de limpiar/las manchas de miel/sobre el mantel/yo nunca supe actuar/mis labios se ven/muertos de sed." isn't that gorgeous? "i never knew the right way to act/ my lips take themselves away/dying of thirst." in spanish it's gorgeous anyway. um, and that was the last 3 lines because i don't know what "miel" is... maybe honey? but why would there be honey on the tablecloth? ...right. so anyway, they have 2 panels of a diego rivera mural as well as a painting by him and a bunch of his sketches. the walls are gorgeous, all yellow and turquoise and pink and... *sigh.*

hey, kwirbx is being mean to me. stop it.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
yeah, i meant noun declensions. why is 2 am not a good time to do greek? *avoiding temptation to make a bad pun*
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
kwirbx is the one being mean. just so you know.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
i finished my greek homework... what more could you want?

(beyond finishing it before 3 am, that is?)

in other news--i think i'm going to know the plural accusative forms very, very well in greek. every fucking sentence seems to use them, and they're so irritating. tous bious. ick.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
god knows. hey, i'm not that tired. how long did i sleep, 5 hours or a little less? weird. funky. you know i'm going to fall asleep in the Gothic novel today. which is good seeing as how what we're reading is not a novel... and you know how every literature class has one of these total jackasses who tries to be impressive by making shit up? not amusing. i want to throw up. look, okay, yes the middle class was emerging for all of history. does this mean that ann radcliffe had servants in her novels as a political statement that they were divine and, like, better than the upper class? oh, yes, of course, which is why she does nothing with them but comic relief. *disgusted* honestly. morons.

on the plus side, the professor squashed him.

wtfh?

they've left their dirty clothes in the bathroom again. no matter how many times a boy explains this to me, i will never understand. how the hell do you forget your underwear? in a coed bathroom? for three days? --the same way you forget to wash your hands after using the urinal in front of tooth-brushing girls, i'd bet.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
it's the greatest class in the world, because not only do all the sentences/exercises translate into these incredibly useful little maxims (ex: the words of the children are not always wise. for the wise man, the world is his native land), but you learn great useful stuff.

like, for example, that doing foreign language homework at 3 am is a really fucking stupid idea. i messed up the last three sentences i translated from greek to english because i couldn't tell apart the cases anymore. including interpreting "the Athenians inscribe their laws into rocks" as "the Athenians write friendship into laws." somehow "rocks"-->"friendship." that is, "lithous"--> "philous." uuuuuuhm, yeah. *going to hide now*

so in the middle of the night our dorm has acquired a new sign on the door. this is what it says.

stop!

if you're going to pee in the hall, remember...

urine smells gross.

&people have to live here.

and the really scary thing is that the stairwell does smell like urine about 80% of the time, and really, i'm not surprised, given that there has been a tshirt between the two bathroom stalls all week now.

i have never paid enough attention to these lyrics to figure out what they're talking about.

in other news, i still have about 4 pages to read for the Gothic novel and... ten minutes to do it in. ick. arg. eh. daddy, if you read this, post a comment, 'k?

li-chan, you're so cute, darling. get a haircut that i'd love. mwah.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
i mean, come on, that's upside down. (of course, when demonstrating the head-turn prof. frank mimed 90 degrees. well, she's english, not math....) so anyway, yeah, foucault's ideas are so revolutionary. you mean power brings knowledge? and--whoa--the motives of the government with the criminal justice system and punishment aren't completely pure? they don't just want to help the criminal????

excuse me while my inner ear readjusts.

the bad thing is that i have to read another hundred pages of this by monday. the good thing is that foucault is more interesting than the prof. makes him sound, though rather dry. and another good thing is that the translation from french was v. v. well-done.

in other news, the Startled! Boy from greek class--you know the type, where their eyes are genetically big and so you can see white almost all the way around the iris--was staring contemplatively at me for most of class today. um, well, okay, i don't know if that look was contemplative or startled.

freshman boys should not have beards, even if they are cute and look like they could play mercutio.

doesn't the idea of these little anonymous crush thingies, like, annoy the hell out of you? like the programs that let you send them? and then when your unofficial college website does it, ugh! wasn't it bad enough that someone else was doing it? are we in second grade here, a la "tell ashley to tell catherine to tell sarah to tell jessica that kyle wants to know if she likes him"? and... oh hell, it is a beer school. at least we're not into cow-tipping.

...that i know of.
cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (Default)
who would i talk to about stuff like this if not for steve?

cimorene111: and there's underwear in the bathroom
cimorene111: but not the same underwear that was there yesterday
seg7474: that's interesting
seg7474: you could start a collection :-)
cimorene111: yeah, i think they do it on purpose
cimorene111: a collection would require that i pick them up
seg7474: yeah, i guess that wouldn't be so fun
cimorene111: no
cimorene111: except with a 10 ft pole maybe
cimorene111: have you ever tried picking up underwear with a pole?
seg7474: no, can't say that i have
cimorene111: see, me neither
cimorene111: but i'm worried that it's not as easy as it looks
seg7474: hahaha
seg7474: i don't think i have a 10 ft pole lying around either
