fandom: star trek: the original series

summary: jim's somehow ended up with another protégé and she reminds him of spock. speaking of spock--jim's birthday is coming up...
notes: set between star trek: the motion picture and star trek ii: the wrath of khan. i owe k'sal the sun and the moon. and if i don't, i'll try to hunt them down for her anyway.
"I'll pay, for your trouble."

"As well as for the pleasure of my company," Spock noted. "Perhaps you should draw up a budget."

Jim paused, caught for a moment, and then made a grandiose gesture. "Your professional expertise and your company are priceless, " he declared gracefully, "so logically payment would be inadequate."

Spock inclined his head.

i realized that probably the biggest problem (and block) with my original novel is that i've been trying to make it too complicated.

we're talking probably not more than half again as long as my magnum opii in the lotr rps fandom (which for some reason attracts length)(tennessee, burn and delirium). i can't have a plot five times as complicated with only a little bit more length. i need to think of this novel the way i think of novellettes and novellas, just slightly longer. in two or three movements, perhaps.

i suppose trying to draw from a myth with an established plot in the first place has gotten in the way of that, and the fact that my idea for it is significantly more plotty than the stories i usually write, which are very cerebral and emotional, the majority of the 'action' occuring in the consciousness of the protagonist. the plot's like a tentacled monster, gobbling up my character with all these time-shifts and breaking the stream of consciousness.

dying is something that happens to parrots and other living things. expiration. passing beyond.

dyeing is a chemical process that hopefully results in a new color.

my little sister's taste in clothes is fast improving, but her taste in swimsuits is still atrocious. but then, some people might say the same about me? ) don't i look a lot like melanie from queer as folk?
