cherry, whipped cream and blueberry day at the store

i always go ::boggle:: when people go 'have a good fourth.'  saying that to a stranger that in a grocery store is like assuming they're christian by saying shit about christmas or easter.  why should july 4 be so universally important that the adjective 'fourth' is promoted to noun status?

i'd like to point this out somehow.

like, 'what, a good fourth break?  do i get four today?'

'a good fourth donut?  are you offering to buy me one?'

or 'i've actually only had sex once this year*, so number four is rather far off. :\'

*although that's not actually personally true, just to clarify.

i've been bravely wrestling all afternoon with the issues of:

1) do i need a visa to study in finland? (no)
2) do i need a residence permit to study in finland? (yes)
3) how do i get the things i need?
4) how the hell do i open a finnish bank account and deposit money in it without going there?  ::keels things::

um, i have to have written proof of housing arrangements in finland to get a residence permit.  so that means... that what, we have to actually GET the apartment and they have to send a letter and then i have to send THAT to the embassy?  and it's supposed to all take 8-12 weeks.  they haven't left me enough time.
