Vacation is more work than work. According to Wax. We've had one of those weeks with Expeditions every day with no days off in between to recover, until now. We're going to jealously guard our weekend before we take Lily to the vet Monday.

Yesterday involved babysitting Carmela and Ciara, and that was a lot of work. Especially because Carmela is four. And she talks constantly. And she never entertains herself. And she doesn't get tired of running around even though it's hot and sunny. It's "Cim, come and wade through waist-high weeds to pluck flowers and wild strawberries with me" and "I don't dare walk over there barefoot! Carry me!" and "Now draw another princess and a prince and a trampoline, and a palace, and a friendly dragon, and a nice queen and king, and write what they're doing there. And then write that the prince and the princess went for a walk in the forest to pick flowers and the queen said... ."

I kind of disliked - at least, didn't understand - gladiator sandals until I saw Drew Barrymore's feet in hers.

Everything's better shiny of course. As they say, metallic's the new neutral. (IDK about that, though. In Finland, at least, white leather is the neutral for summer and it hasn't lost much ground to metallics in recent years.)

In other shoe news, buying those apple sneaks gave me the courage to sell bully Wax into writing a Finnish listing for them at Huuto.net (the Finnish e-bay substitute). No sense hanging onto them, however delightful and pink, when they are a size (rather a half-size) too big. They cleaned up nice. Fucking Converse and their fucking wrong sizes.

Look at Abigail Breslin being the cutest thing imaginable, all dressed up in 30's clothes! For, of all things, an American Girl (for the ignorant: a giant franchise of dolls with books about them, and movies, and furniture, and... well... stuff) movie called Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl that, for some mysterious reason, hasn't gone straight to DVD, but was actually... released in theatres for Independence Day weekend? Well, it's set during the Great Depression, which accounts for the delightful period look to the stills available at IMDb. Nothing, of course, can account for Abigail's cuteness except for genetics. It doesn't hurt that I love that period and she's sporting my second-favourite hairstyle (after the version with bangs, of course). I'm not sure if I'll bring myself to watch it or not, though. There's something skeevy (not to mention money-grubbing, tacky, dippy, gender role-reinforcing) about the franchise (though to its credit, from what I've seen, it could be worse. It could be Disney Princesses).
