cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (actually you have to push this button)

it's really rare that i care about an obvious canonical het ship, but you know? morgan/garcia in criminal minds really, really does it for me. ♥ i might love criminal minds more than csi & csi ny, actually - it's hard to say.

it reminded me, for one thing, how much i enjoy this show. mandy patinkin was there, being awesome; thomas whatsit was delivering bite-sized doses of exactly the right angst (well, like mandy, except it was different angst - i so enjoy their constrasting and complementary daddy complexes, and hotch's big brother moments). actually, all of the leads got my love for their characters and for their acting of them, except elle, who got pity because she had such a soppy part this time (although bonus points for being dressed in a black bra and a lot of blood - that was somewhat cool). reid's nervous neuroses are both well-done and adorable, i love his mom (and hope she will be recurring), and i love the way he interacts with hotch and gideon especially. the scene with him and garcia talking awkwardly about his mother really impressed me, i mean, really, on both their parts. that wasn't the only time i was impressed with garcia in this episode, either. and my otp made me quietly gasp with glee the first time they spoke, when she was upset and distracted and cool and brisk, calling morgan by his first name - and then later with the subtle little touching and that shot of their heads together which - ah.

in not at all more coherent thoughts, but thoughts which are at least about the plot: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. this one was exceptionally silly: i really think it should not have been the season finale. there were a bunch of episodes last season that were better, although maybe they were short on two-parters. besides being overdone, almost the fact of just using camelot at all would almost have made it unsuitable for the finale, i feel.

the absolute worst part: elle's soft-focus conversations with daddy. OH MY GOD. DIE. that's enough about those, except once again: elle, i am so sorry.

i think claire forlani is really hot, and i love her natural accent. i'm not sure how well mac's angst about romance in the workplace is going to keep playing if they run with it, but i was willing to go with it for the length of the episode, and liking her doesn't hurt. although the introduction scene was kind of amusingly transparent, exposition-dump-wise, as csi franchise shows often are:

CLAIRE: hi, guys. i'm british. how've you been?
FLACK OR SOMEONE: hi, claire. we totally know you.
MAC: i feel awkward.
STELLA: mac has no social skills and i'm not sure i like you. on the other hand, the two of us are friendly acquaintances, and you own much social capital by virtue of being british and connected with a prestigious ivy league university.
CLAIRE: i may be british, but i am not boring, as my dislike for the ivy league and penchant for being partially undressed on camera are anxious to prove.
STELLA: great, that's so nice. here's the body.

i enjoyed both mysteries this time. lindsay was extra cute with her excitement about the dynamite transfer and so on.

fashion watch! csi is an obviously styled show, and meticulously so, i think, so i was very interested to note that stella was sporting no elements of the season's big trends (as i've been observing them, that is): there was nothing ornate, lacy or at all reminiscent of the first half of the 20th century; there was no tweedy/ sweatervesty menswear; there was no eighties influence, no off-the-shoulder or large stripes; and her jeans were not that annoying spray-painted on kind, nor were they offensively low or repulsively high-waisted. i mean, not that i really thought they'd dress stella in something so unflattering, but with the bright coloured top, blazer and jeans she had on in the first half, the episode could easily have been filmed last year. lindsey's pink printed cotton blouse was a little more current (printed cotton!), but the sparkles took it away from that wwii-and-previous feel you've been getting on and off since last year.

actually, at this point, i'm more excited for csi tomorrow than i was for either of these, for reasons related to last season's finale-bomb. also! i am happy to report that the new couch is really delightful to sit on. but we could really use a coffee table, if we're going to be sitting on it much. (we tried to get one, but ikea doesn't deliver the one we wanted, for some reason.)

Haha, yes, that introduction scene was amusingly transparent. Also, I've been watching so much American tv lately that British accents now sound strange to me. Huh!
