Thor's Bridal Journey [part 1], translated (Peter Madsen's Valhall #2, 1980)

Here, according to my better half's promise to our darling bexless, is [the beginning of] our translation (although it's mostly mine, with corrections by waxjism, who has been exhausted from her work in the saltmines) of Peter Madsen's brilliant Valhall comic's retelling of þrymskviða¹.

The entire story is 47 pages and the rest should be up in a few days, but it doesn't cut off at a cliffhanger or anything. This issue is not, according to Madsen's website, available in English. (It is available in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, Faroese, Finnish, Dutch, German, and Indonesian, however, so if one of these languages applies to you, you are definitely encouraged to purchase it.)

1.Thrymskvida/The Lay of Thrym, in which Thor is dressed as a bride and married off to the giant Thrym with Loki (trolling all the way) as his bridesmaid. Or, in the words of bagheera_san, "crossdressing for great justice".

When I was a kid, the local library stocked ALL comics in the children's lit section. Because, like, comics are for kids, right?

The Valhalla comics were probably some of the least worrying examples of what I read at age 7-10, but I do remember being somewhat disturbed by the nudity and general bawdiness (I read them all anyway).

I also like how it doesn't shy away from the misogyny, but it's not on the side of the fail, hooray! /serious note
