cimorene: painting of a glowering woman pouring a thin stream of glowing green liquid from an enormous bowl (misanthropy)
i woke up at 8:45. this sucks, because i gave slate his shot early last night, at around 7:30, so that made the interval significantly longer. am now ready to consume french toast and skip church. also, possibly, to settle down with all the new books i have not yet finished. i'm supposed to go back to b&d's this afternoon to meet the across-the-street neighbor and get a recommendation for a second plumber. >.<

the grass is always wet in the morning, and i always come home with the hem of my jeans soaked. also, there's a painful little pinching-crick thing at the base of my neck. ::yawn::

the mask of loki - roger zelazny and thomas t. thomas
dhalgren, driftglass, tales of neveryon, stars in my pocket like grains of sand, and the jewels of aptor - samuel r delany
diplomatic immunity and the curse of chalion - lois mcmaster bujold
the book of the gods and the book of lost swords - fred saberhagen
white teeth - zadie smith
perdido street station - china mieville
if i pay thee not in gold - mercedes lackey and piers anthony (maybe not; i don't particularly like either of them)
any cj cherryh i wish. we have too much of it, and i figure i owe it another try even if i did despise rusalka, because the foreigner series is one of my favorites in creation.

[edit: and this is by far my favorite icon. look at jago! she's unbelievably cool, if you read the foreigner series, and then she's also really hot, and she's the first alien on this planet to screw a human. and she and bren are so cute. there are some eminently combustible moments in invader. so yeah. and her big gun! her pretty little braids! her black leather! i'm in love.]

alright, so i have this great chair. it's one of those ones with two x-shapes on the sides made out of wood with a deep slingy shape between. this used to be part of the furniture of my parents when they had, like, no furniture at all. it was upholstered, but then it became the cat chair and the dog chair. so we ripped the upholstery off and i made it a new sling out of green striped satin that's incredibly spiffy. it's not as comfortable as it was with upholstery, obviously, but it's still absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. and i have the cute little fake-patina lamp next to it with the Cutest Lampshade in Existence (tm) next to it.

but i never use. it agonized endlessly over how to arrange things in this narrow little room so the desk would be near the chair so i could pick up my laptop and surf from the chair, only it turns out i can't stand reclining so much with the laptop, i've got to be sitting up. the only other thing to do there would be to read an actual book, which i have been doing next to none of lately, though i do, as you may've noticed, intend to start.

hm. it's so sad. i made a pillow just especially for it and everything! ::pets chair mournfully::

i need a picard icon, but there are none that i can stand to delete. look at my new leia--take that, natalie. >.

holls, where ARE you? let's make a date, huh? we have to talk every day or... every other day... or something. or i will DIE.

wel, hopefully not really. hey, and look.

hm. well, i've surfed through a few ds recs pages, but for the most part i didn't like anything well enough to rec it. well, that is, except for the ones that i have recc'd, which are almost entirely by resonant and speranza. and of course i won't read something that i really like without recc'ing, but that still leaves the problem. anyone can find out about them. they're deservedly quite well-known. recc'ing each and every one i like of theirs is kind of a waste of time. there ought to be a greater variety. of course i'm confident i'll eventually turn something up, but i wish it were easier.

of course, there was a time when i felt that way about every fandom, but in some--star wars, highlander--i was eventually able to reconcile myself to a greater variety. i'm getting tired of the layout and font on my website. hm. i wonder if i'm too lazy to do anything about it, though.

because you want to know this, i'm leaving now. yes. the across-street neighbors? are supposed to know something about plumbers. yeah.

i just watched ep.s 4 and 5 of monty python's flying circus and they were both really fucking funny. if you can get hold of it, the skits "fresh fruit" and "secret service dentistry," both from ep 4 ("owl-stretching time"), are hilarious. hard to believe the spanish inquisition one could be any better.

i had a very nice nap, thank you, on my back on bev and dave's couch with slate nuzzling at me. i only slept, loaded and unloaded the dishwasher and did some laundry, but it completely wiped me out. and before i went i hadn't even thought that i was tired. i learned the name of the artist and song that i most despise: avra (sp?) levine and "complicated." shut up. it was inescapable on the top 40 this morning, i was in the car, my other three radio stations were in commercials or r kelly's latest, the other song i absolutely can't stand, only that one is even worse.

::yawn::

if there are multiple people you dislike, is it more or less irritating if they turn out to all like each other?

or is it just funny?

hmmm. c'mon, input, here. i need to know how insane i am. specifically i need to be patted on the head and told that i am not, after all, THAT insane.

yeah, i'm at bev and dave's. got in contact with the across the street neighbor, who has a deep soothing drawl, and he promised to look into who could be trusted with such a sensitive plumbing job without ripping them off. i'm getting a recommendation from him tomorrow, so my work here is technically done, but slate seems to be starved for affection. so far in the last half hour here he's licked my toes, my knuckles, and my elbow, and he's now kneading my arm preparatory to climbing in my lap. i just couldn't go off and leave him, even though i was coding html for my site. ::sigh:: let's check out some more slash, eh?

i've just been reading this (ds, nc-17, by resonant--"too sweet"), and i think everyone else should too. yes.
