so i dreamt a story that didn't have me in it! there were two guys named ray doyle, for starters. one of them was the one from the professionals and one of them looked like hugh jackman as wolverine (eeeee sir ian!) (ahem). the hugh-jackman ray was on a bus along with a nice little old lady and my friend karti and some other people, and he and karti were living together in a rented house in new york city somewhere--a nice one. and karti was paying for it. i think they were married, um, or something. but he was also living at the same time in another part of nyc (not easily accessible by bus or subway!) with the OTHER ray doyle. like, er, gay lovers. yes. so neither one of them knew about the other (pros-ray and karti, that is). ( paying a pay phone with flip flops? )

i french-braided my own hair behind my head this morning, which is quite an accomplishment--and for some reason i keep sleeping, like, EXACTLY 7.5 hours every night. i don't understand this. and of course, there are the naps every day. it is not for us to reason why, oh no.

my hair looked orange in the mirror this morning. it was red last night. how does this happen? maybe it's just that i'm grumpy.

daddy keeps pressuring me about the novel. the more he mentions it, the more inclined i am to write nothing but snippets of fanfiction. legolas/gimli leads the pack right now. and my k'salamander hasn't answered my last email. er, unless i didn't answer hers? i *think* i did.

azimuth reminds me a lot of miss sunbeam (if you don't do [real, not voy] star trek slash, you're expected not to know who that is). this is a compliment of the highest order, i think. i miss other people too--is it enough to make me brave the wilds of ascem? probably not. maybe i'll make a 'which asceml queen are you?' quiz. [edit: OOOOOH, or maybe i'll make a new layout for the recs page and the text index of my website.]

1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year?
realizing the extent of the fucked-up-ness of things in time to do something about it, and doing said something (i.e. taking academic leave).

2. What was your biggest disappointment?
might've been one of the philosophical revelations associated with the above. when i realized how much i hate academia. not only can i not stand to work in it, but i can't stand to live in it for the rest of the time i needed to to get a degree. and it also kind of eliminates my career plans. here's hoping some things straighten out for me. new career plans, renewed tolerance, whatever.

3. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions?
never.

4. Where will you be at midnight? Do you wish you could be somewhere else?
home, at my parents' new year's party. i'd much rather be at mece's with wax_jism, which was the original plan. (left the tickets too late. >.<)

5. Aside from (possibly) staying up late, do you have any other New Year's traditions?
we have a pretty formulaic new year's party for the years we spend christmas in kansas with my mother's family. my favorite aunt and uncle host it; tina and bruce get drunk; my mom and cherrie make frozen margaritas; joe drinks wine coolers; i hide out in aubry's room with the rest of the matched set; we play board games, watch movies, eat pizza or hamburgers or both; sherry brings boiled cookies.

it's never going to be like that again.

i wonder who in my generation will host them and if i'll ever go to one?
