eek--i thought i was going to sleep but now i'm restless because this story has quite skilfully woken me up, and only halfway through too! the qui-angst in the beginning was overdone and i'm not positive how far i will endorse obi-wan's characterization. but let no one say i didn't enjoy myself!

this podunk little university is so... STUPID. i hate the general. i like the specific. they only offer one linguistics course beyond the introduction, and it's a 'studies in' 300-level. they offer only surveys of world literature and literary criticism, nothing focused on one area or anything; and they only have ONE lit crit class, if you don't count the advanced writing-seminars, for what is supposedly a fairly reputable english department. stupid STUPID. and they offer only six languages (apart from 'distance-learning') at a university with over 35,000 students. morons.

'the rough silk of the beard'? well. there's someone who's never spent much time with a beard. yahtzee's generally a good bet for a good read. well put-together, no notable missteps, a strong narrative flow. perhaps she's overconfident, even. i'd say this one might be a little too smooth.
