the musgrave ritual is a pretty cool story in print canon because of the problem itself, not to mention the solution. but it's really cute on film. in the first scene, for instance, when holmes mentions cataloguing his case notes from before watson appeared, watson immediately whips out his notebook and sits there, twitching nervously and clearly wanting to get his hands on them. holmes lists several airily (including 'the singular affair of the aluminum crutch') and puts his feet on the trunk with a theatrical thump. the problem itself )

high points: while deciphering the ritual and tracing the steps in its directions. highly dramatic--perfect for holmes. also the introductory scene. also brumpton's dismissal.
low points: the Other Woman.

'the man with the twisted lip' is sort of odd. in canon, the drama towards the end gets high but it's mostly a sort of weird story, full of a lot of exposition and blahblah. but this one contains many excellent exchanges. such as. )

high points: all the funny dialogue behind the cut.
low points: length of neville st. clair stuff. yawn! why go on and on about the actual case? geez.

Democratic front-runner Howard Dean says his decision as governor to sign the bill legalizing civil unions for gays in Vermont was influenced by his Christian views, as he waded deeper into the growing political, religious and cultural debate over homosexuality and the Bible's view of it. "The overwhelming evidence is that there is very significant, substantial genetic component to it," Dean says. "From a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have created gay people."
