estorbar does not mean 'to masturbate.' spanish has other perfectly good words for 'masturbate'* that shakira did not use in 'te dejo madrid.' furthermore, i don't think it would make sense for her to leave her boyfriend because she had started to masturbate. no. don't even think it. it's not even a cognate. shut up.

we had one of those on our car. or rather, both of them. i was in high school in tuscaloosa, alabama, and my mother was a graduate teaching assistant in art, doing art for elementary education majors on the university of alabama's little quad, in front of the sculpture garden. someone walking by the car tore it off. we replaced it. lost another. replaced it again and lost it again. replaced it with this:

my brilliant red hair--which rather matches the red and gold of the gryffindor logo on my black shirt--is zigzag parted and held in two little coiled buns low down behind my ears. also, blue jeans, black sweater, black leather hiking boots, as it's raining and miserable out there.

watched most of this movie in spanish today. only four people came, the sports guy who can't pronounce; the high school girl who is really hot, but too thin; and the asian boy with lots of acne. all were nice. it was a good small group.

the movie was in spanish--gorgeous argentinian spanish, my god, i love that accent--but subtitled. i think i could have followed well without, but appreciated the consideration. the tv's color made everything too neon--you know, orange and green. hue intensity up (says my icon-making brain), which was distracting sometimes. plot was nice and not too hard to follow, and it's pretty classy for a soap opera.

a totally sordid melodrama, and unashamed. a historical one, no less, about a catholic upperclass socialite running away to live in sin with a jesuit priest who's already a bit dissentious towards rosas, the dictator of great evil at the time. politics, costumery, money shots, frantic sex--what more could you ask?

i've just gotten done formatting and printing something to mail off and submit somewhere, which feels awfully productive of me. i only installed my printer last night, which involved screwing an adapter into the horribly stripped light socket to plug a power bar into. even with the screw (which i used a butter knife for), it hangs half out of the socket, rather drunkenly. i don't think these sockets are safe. i need to remember to mention this to someone.

meanwhile, cara_chapel got to play the role of some very wise person today and listen to my neuroses. sometimes i can't believe people are willing to listen to me whine. if you think i whine a lot in here, and you don't chat with me--well. anyway, no particular news about the neuroses. am still neurotic, still simultaneously eager and reluctant to spill them to daddy. somehow i think he can't mop it all up this time.

in other other news, thanks to nemoricultrix, i have now purchased a phone card which costs exactly half as much per minute as the one i've been using for over a year now. thank you, love.
